I would like to know what their available tank colors were from that period.
Thanks in advance, Fred
p.s. - While we're at it, I have the same question about Voit / Swimaster offerings of the time.

Drado may be on to something. Paints contain plastacizers (acrylics) as binding agents and also for UV protection. Plastic gets darker and more yellow with age so your paint darkens as well. Thats why you can "polish" off the top coat and renew the color many times. I was thinking of doing the same thing to a tank yesterday vs. repainting it. Certainly worth a try.Drado wrote:But otherwise its a really purdy looking tank right there... I wonder if a little bit of rubbing compound could restore the original color of the tank?
Also, here's a thought as well re using catalogs for color matching: old catalogs also fade as well (but is still the best source of info I guess )

My '74 Dacor seemed to have an epoxy coating underneath it when I stripped it before:scubasteve59 wrote:Probably a rubber type coating....I just stripped down my Dacor 1974 era tank yesterday with aircraft paint stripper. The top layers of paint bubbled right off with mild scraping. Underneath all that was a thick rubbery blue color coating that got soft. I took a carpet knife and scored lines in it and then literally pulled it off in sheets. Underneath that was the bare metal.
It looks pretty good in the photo - I would probably dive with it if it's ok inside. Chances are that J-valve seat is crumbled or soon will be with a little use, but if you need a plug or the J lever/knob I may have an extra that will make it look better for display (or use).8dust wrote:Now that's a major case of sunburn!!!![]()
Bought this for cheap cheap to use for display.... .
