Nemrod catalog out there ?

Thu Dec 01, 2011 10:21 pm

Anybody have a Nemrod catalog from the mid-70's ???

I would like to know what their available tank colors were from that period.

Thanks in advance, Fred

p.s. - While we're at it, I have the same question about Voit / Swimaster offerings of the time. :)

In the manuals/catalog section there is a Nemrod 1973 catalog and also Voit 1956-1979 catalogs you can download or view all of them..

Well now.... I'm just about beside myself! :?

I was sure I had seen examples of both on here some time ago, but I can't begin to tell you how much time I waisted looking and looking for them last night

and I still wouldn't have found them, even with the link, were it not for a fat-fingered accident just moments ago! :o

SO, IN CASE ANYONE HAPPENS TO BE AS GENERALLY DUMB AND INCAPIBLE AS I APARENTLY AM...
NOTE: IF YOU ARE ON THAT FIRST PAGE OF THE MANUALS / CATALOG SECTION, AND YOU CLICK ON THE ORANGE PULLDOWN AND HIT VIEW-PLAY... YOU GET ONE THING, WHICH IS LIMITED. IF YOU CLICK ON IT 50 MORE TIMES, AND POUND YOUR HEAD ON THE MONITOR, YOU WILL VIEW THE SAME LIMITED BIT, AND YOUR WIFE WILL YELL ABOUT GETTING A BIG GREASE MARK ON THE SCREEN.

 IF, HOWEVER, YOU CLICK ON THE BLUE FOLDER... WELL, THE WORLD IS JUST YOUR OYSTER, ISN'T IT!!! AND THERE IS A WHOLE BIG BUNCH MORE STUFF, AND YOU'RE NOT REALLY SUFFERING FROM DEMENTIA AFTER ALL.

I can only hope that my extensive pain and consternation will ultimately save someone else the experience. When you can't be smart, at least be giving.

This concludes my public service for the evening. It's beer-thirty and then some.

Now that's a major case of sunburn!!!

Bought this for cheap cheap to use for display. Could not believe the color change once I knocked the boot off.

One of the reasons I was looking for the mid-70's Voit catalog was to verify the original shade. Thought the bottom might have faded somehow, but the top really did darken that much! Mom was right, it doesn't pay to sit in the sun too long...

But otherwise its a really purdy looking tank right there... I wonder if a little bit of rubbing compound could restore the original color of the tank?

Also, here's a thought as well re using catalogs for color matching: old catalogs also fade as well (but is still the best source of info I guess ) :D

Drado may be on to something. Paints contain plastacizers (acrylics) as binding agents and also for UV protection. Plastic gets darker and more yellow with age so your paint darkens as well. Thats why you can "polish" off the top coat and renew the color many times. I was thinking of doing the same thing to a tank yesterday vs. repainting it. Certainly worth a try.

Hmmm... You fellows may be on to something, maybe. It's not paint I don't believe, but rather some real thick vinyl simmilar to the USD stuff. Strange the USD yellow ones that are so common don't seem to darken like this? Should be like "buffing" Koolaid stains out of my kicthen counter tops. Will update.

Probably a rubber type coating....I just stripped down my Dacor 1974 era tank yesterday with aircraft paint stripper. The top layers of paint bubbled right off with mild scraping. Underneath all that was a thick rubbery blue color coating that got soft. I took a carpet knife and scored lines in it and then literally pulled it off in sheets. Underneath that was the bare metal.

My '74 Dacor seemed to have an epoxy coating underneath it when I stripped it before:

Paint stripper only had a minimal effect on the undercoat. Had to take it off with lots of patience. If I had to do it all over again, I'd have left the tank blue. But there was a nick on the paint and I just had to verify that the tank was intact (the tanks were bought 2nd hand). Anyway, it was good to note that the galv underneath was relatively okay :D

It's pretty wild how that sticker ghosts on the tank. It manages to react with the galv., through both the vinyl & the epoxy?! or maybe it's the other way around, that the galv. is reacting everywhere to something but under the sticker.

The 38 cf. Sportsways twins I stripped last winter were like that. Thick topcoat, crazy tough epoxy factory/bottom coat, and galv. below with very strong ghosts of where the tank stickers had been.

It looks pretty good in the photo - I would probably dive with it if it's ok inside. Chances are that J-valve seat is crumbled or soon will be with a little use, but if you need a plug or the J lever/knob I may have an extra that will make it look better for display (or use).
The older I get the better I was.

NIELS !

That's great!!! Very helpful. Thanks a bunch.

Maybe Bryan could add that to the archive!

I was sure I had seen a light grey Nemrod tank somewhere, not Galv., but grey paint and it looks like everything so far in '62 & '73 is Galv. or yellow... interesting...

Even more interesting  is the hair on those dive-chicks on page #12... hard to believe... interesting choice for a sportswear catalog  I'd hate to get a minnow stuck in there! :o

If anyone has seen a Nemrod tank with original paint, other than yellow, I'd like to know about it, and if you can provide a swatch of the color that would be even better still.

THANK YOU Niels! Very cool to see.

Freddo:
Here is my Nemrod tank in original paint. It had a layer of white paint I stripped off when I got it. I believe it to be a '63 by the first hydro date stamped on it.

It is interesting to see the yellow in the catalog without the feet mine has. I guess one likely possibility is that is a true Nemrod Spanish catalog - vs. Seamless distribution of the stuff in the U.S. - Maybe they sold the Walter Kidde tanks here vs. others in Europe. it Mine came as a set with the regulator and the backplate. Still trying to get this tank in service. I got it last year and started a post on it in March. Passed hydro, then the liner was flaking. Finally got that removed and it's clean inside, but getting someone to fill it is still troublesome. Would like to dive it as a complete set as I have the mask and fins as well.
