New forum feature

Fri Mar 28, 2014 1:29 pm

All,

The forum now supports inline uploads of images that automatically resize. What this means in English is that you can upload pictures, and they will be resized for you and displayed in your post without going to another site with a bunch of ads and such.

Here's how it works:
-Simply create a new post
-Click the "upload attachment" tab below the "Save, preview, submit" buttons
-Click the "browse" button to find your picture on your desktop
-Click the "add the file" button
-Click the "place inline" button when it appears
-Click the "submit" button

Your picture will be uploaded and resized for you. If you click on that resized picture, then the original will be displayed at full size in a new window.

**If anyone runs into any browser issues or something doesn't work correctly for you, then please let me know and I will address your concerns**

This is an example picture for your edification:

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Gentlemen,

The forum is currently restricted on the size of the pictures that you can upload, as some of you have found. The pictures that we all post will be hosted on the VDH server, which means that they count against VDH's data. If we all post too many pictures, then we blow the data rate.

For those of you who hit the limit, were the pictures really large? Can we live with this data limit, or do we need to change it? Bear in mind that if you want to share a huge photo that you can just use any number of free utilities on the Internet to resize it into a smaller format. Does this seem livable, or do we need to change it? Keep in mind that the lower the file size per file, the more pictures that we can post.

What we have posted so far seems to be the easiest way to post directly and the pictures look great. Let's keep it as is for now and adjust later if necessary and afer a data size check or two.

For what it's worth, I did find if I downsize my photos first it takes less time to upload over my slightly better than dialup connection. I like this method much much better than the almost porn sight we were using..

Working on putting some short video clips on the main page that would rotate and change to keep it interesting. Please send content if you have it to share my way please.

What is the size limit (file size) and where do you want them sent? VDH mailbox or a different one?

Not really sure of the size limit....go ahead and send to me [email protected] I just purged my mailbox so let's see if it works.

If we cannot send them via email due to size, I can embed youtube videos as well. I would prefer that they are hosted on the VDH server though, if possible. Let me know if you guys have problems emailing a large video. We can share it through googledocs or other means.
