Re: Sand Dog 2.0

It was good to see y'all and to meet a few new people. I think the SD2.0 a success. I had fun, took a bunch of pics I have yet to dive into much. My favorite was the Rainbow drift. I had thought I would be bored but it was super fun and tons of interesting life and at least for our group it was not crowded. Sucked my tank to a vacuum just as I crawled out at the end!

From SD I proceeded south and did a dive at BHB and then over to Jupiter for six dives with Kyalami as my op. Saw the largest loggerhead turtle I have ever seen and the largest Lemon shark as well. Quite a few large Goliath groupers as well despite aggregation being several months off yet. The lemon shark would not come in close, just kind of drifted off our collective bow off and on through one of the dives, curious, but not that curious to come in and visit I guess :(. Almost got ran over by a frightened reef shark that was of the mind ot get the Hades out of there and came around the reef bend to be surprised by me.

As to 'youts, there are no scuba 'youts. No matter where I go, diving that is, all I see are vintage people. Most have new gear, highest dollars stuff that can be gotten but they have grey hair on top and grey matter inside. Younger folks do not scuba dive, simply not into becoming good at a few things but instead like to "experience" a smorgasbord of mini-adventures and then cross each one off. I get it, sorta. We just need to be happy, dive as long as we can and the rest will fall out as it will in the fullness of time.

The diving was very enjoyable, but the people were even better. I was pleasantly surprised by the fun we had at Alexander Springs, the beach was uncrowded for the non-divers, the swimming area large and pool-like and the spring iteslf shallow but cool. Loved it all, although a month later, I am still finding sand in some of my gear: how could sand get into the mask frame?? Special thanks to Anne and Allan, Roger and Dan, Rob and Barb and all the rest of the hosts and attendees who kept our gathering memorable.
Too DAAM Many double hoses, It's not a hobby, it's an addiction.
