Any info on these tanks?

Mon Jan 24, 2011 1:03 am

A friend of mine (from our club) sent me these pics of an old set up he has. Anyone know anything about them? It appears to be an older manifold assembly. I've emailed him to send the stamped tank info on the necks and will add to this post when I get it.
Thanks,
Dale.

Those are two standard smaller tanks (38's?) with early K valves facing each other using a cross over manifold bar, AKS a "Cheater bar" and "Suicide bar" connecting them. The back pack looks to be a Voit to me, but the experts will be by shortly to say for sure.

The pack is Voit and that model pack cracked very easily. I would guess the tanks are 30/42 or 50 cubic foot tanks. What is the psi rating on the tanks?
If you need Voit decals for the tanks, I have them for sale.

I'm still waiting for the email reply for the tank info.
This fellow wants to set them up as a display in his home so I'll tell him about the decals. He'll probably go for them.

It's hard to say what they are without seeing the stamps. Possibly Walter Kidd ICC3A1800 38 cu ft. They look very collectible.

Don't let terms like 'cheater bar' or 'suicide bar' bother you. However, I would suggest a set of double bands with a Navy harness by Allan to replace the Voit back pack. Two sets of bands keeps the temporary manifold from flexing. The pig tail corrects most of the problem, but you can have O rings leak if tank movement causes too much flexing. Those manifolds were intended for low pressure tanks but would be great with a Broxton regulator. Some dive shops with employees who don't have very much expertise will not fill them.

I hope they are fun for you.

Yep, the backpack was called the Voit Snugpak. And it is prone to cracking. I bought one back in the day and still have it. And it is cracked...
Looks good with m blue and white Voit tanks and my blue Voit 50 Fathom.
