Re: Bands for twin 40s

The bands for the twin 30/40s finally arrived and they look super! I will take some pictures tonight. I will be ordering a set of cylinders and hope to have them in a week or so. I think the Luxfer brushed will look great with the bands.

Here is a picture of the custom 5.25" bands. I didn't have time to take a photo so this is the one Victor sent me.

They look very well made.

After procrastinating for a couple of years, I finally bought two 40cuft tanks to go with the custom bands I had made. I have a Zeagle Tech BCD for modern dives and I plan to use the Zeagle back plate with a harness for vintage dives. My LDS has a heated pool so I hope to try them out soon.

- Wow... That turned out really neat. I've read through this post from beginning to end, not realizing it was started quite some time ago. Thanks for the nice pictures of the finished project.
- One thing about doubles I'm realizing... The 1 year VIP requirement sure comes up quick. What a pain in the neck. A 5 year hydro isn't so bad but having to disassemble doubles every year just so the LDS can look inside is kind of lame. In my case it feels like I only just got the set of twin 80's together... Dove them only once last summer. Geez Loueez...

I agree that the annual VIP is a pain with doubles. I'm also not thrilled with all the stickers. The former tech at my LDS put them on the bottom of my twin 50s. When I have the next VIP done I will ask him to put them on the front of the tanks, so they look better. I ordered a XS standard back pack and harness to go with them. I plan to use my SeaTec Sunfish BC.

I attached a XS back pack and harness to my 40s. I found my PRAM extends forward more than a stock unit, and that means either lowering the bands (rather not) or tilting the regulator to clear the handle of the back pack. I adjusted the straps so the regulator sits between my shoulder blades, although a tad high.

Looks very nice John.

I put together a set of 40's too using HVAC hangers for bands and they are very nice to dive vintage. I tried the plastic backpack but in my case the reg sat too far off my back - and putting it on the post was a pita.
I then tried using my stock backplate (like your earlier image) which worked but they reg sat too high.
I then bought a flat piece of 6061 alloy aluminum and built a plate very similar to the vintage plate sold here at VDH. That worked great.

Ignoring the rope around my head, here's a shot of me diving it this summer:

I see you are from Vancouver WA. I live just outside Vancouver BC. With a little coordination this summer we could post pics of two double hose divers using twin 40's in two different Vancouvers. That would be something you don't see every day :)

Well, I don't know if it's possible to get narced at 30' but...

We were doing a Club camp and dive at one of my more favorite interior lakes (Pavillion) and a group of us were just messing about. My friend was trying out his new very expensive camera rig and using me as a subject, so to speak. He kept wanting me to hold position while he fiddled with the settings blah blah blah and I saw this rope anchored to the bottom (an old mooring buoy) and though it would be best to just tie myself in for a bit.. or maybe I didn't think - I can't remember.

Being just shy of neutral I sort of wafted like a balloon for a while.

Here's some of the gang (I'm side mounting).
