Very nice and timely too, I have 2 old J valves on the bench I was about to dissamble. I was given 2 Dacors with the HP guage ports....just wish I had gotten the $15 each 72's that came with them.

I would like to add one thing.
Remember the parts are brass and using excessive force trying to disassemble a valve can result in damanged and broken parts. When a retainer or bonnet will not loosen with what I feel is normal force I use a propane torch to heat the offending part. I also spray the part with Aerokroil periodically while heating the part. When the part is hot enough to ignite the Areokroil it is hot enough. This usually frees the part so it can be easily removed and will not damage the valve.

Yeah, and the bonnet retainer nut is reverse (left hand) threads on the USD. The first time I found out the hard way..I destroyed the nut!!!!
I still have it as a reminder of how mad I got.
I wanted Y'all to see, before this happens to you

Not all of them, just some of the later valves with the plastic knobs. The left hand thread nuts are indicated by notches on the cornors of the wrench flats around the circumference of the nut.

I ordered a can of Aerokroil off their web page and they sent a free can for free. Good deal.

No, I just have never done one of the newer plastic knob J-valves. I know of one on a scrap tank at a dive shop near by with a 1/2" thread. I'll try to get a photo of the notched bonnet to add to the presentation.

You have to love anything published for the Navy's use. A caution is something that will result in damage to equipment. A note is something essential to emphasize...

It's like the whole Navy uses that same lingo.

Its not just the MIl, we Mil contractors also use the Caution/Note conventions.

Anyway, I added the above drawing to the presentation and sent the new revision to Bryan this morning.
