Powder baked paint & injury to dive master in fl in 80's

Sat Aug 26, 2006 6:03 pm

I'm not an expert but I have noticed more and more powder paints on dive equipment. I remember in the 80's a dive master was seriously injured when filling some tanks that were painted with the powder paint method. It seems that the baking of the tanks to adhere the paint weakened the tanks. They were al 80's. Just a thought about a possible caution.

True... Alum. tanks are not to be baked at any temp weather it is a custom paint job at the local auto shop or powdercoat.

But you can powder coat the h--l out of your regulator and it will be just fine. Never seen a double hose explode yet  :D .

I can't imagine how you could powder coat the hp parts on a reg and still have it work. ha ha- but I was thinking if the powder bit got popular again the tanks would be next especially since they often take the most abuse.

A couple of times I have seen tanks on Ebay where the seller stated they were powder coated-Seriously scares the heck out of me. Saw one a month or so ago on a set of twins that were powder coated red. Maybe you guys noticed them
