The ports orientation came out great on this one.

Well, I don’t think any charter boat operator will allow that one aboard, and I don’t think I could blame them.

Well, I like it, the purist will not but like some folks chop their old cars into hot rods or motorcycles and this is in the same vein, a hot rod Aqua Master deserves some occasional in your face finsihes, that thing will put the techies eyes out on stems for sure.

One thing though, does that powder coat chip off the chrome easily? The nozzle being left brass will require occasional polishing to keep bright and free of verdigris if dived in salt water--?

As soon as Portage is over mine will get a "job" on it also. I have been planning for a while to powder coat it a flat or semi gloss graphite black. I have the new gold round label from Jerry and his Phoenix knob label. I am also looking into vapor coatings and even gold plating or tungsten carbide type coatings. I will however leave the nozzle and yoke chrome. My main concern right now is to get some time on it so I can give good feebback to Luis .

In any case, I am very impressed with the one Ryan Spence put together and Rob's and now this yellow one of Karl's --wow---I like it.

Karl--the mild mannered, soft spoken, Hoosier of conservative Germanic heritage has in one single stroke ushered in a new era of Vintage diving!

A Hot Rod regulator!

Lets all remember that Karl was the first--

Sir, I commend you and congratulate you on your boldness and pioneering venture into a new era of Vintage Diving.

Where you have so boldly ventured others will certainly follow...

Please bring it to Portage Quarry!

Yum Yum yellow. bet the sharks will just love him to death.. a tasty vintage morcel.

I was thinking of powder coating several boxes, and bought a specilaixzed powder which has a shear of 600 psi which means it is pretty well dent proof and peel proof if it gets a hard knock. Do stay away from epoxy coatings, as they tend to chalk once exposed to a UV environment.

The stuff I bought cost 15 bucks for three pounds, and wears like nails.

It is in the mess in my basement, If anyone wants the name of the stuff, I will actuaslly clean up the basement and get it to them If no. it can stay messed up until Nove (end of dive season time)

OK, what is the stuff you speak off---go clean the basement now! Can we allow this challenge to go unmet--well---hmmm---maybe it would be best, I was thinking flames at the exhaust port

Seeing as how you asked so neghbourily like.. I guess I will just have to clean out my basement and find this stuff.. It is a 95% mirror finish, almost like a black crhome. I will endeasvour to get the exact make and model etc

By the by does anyone have a pix of these MR 12 regs I hear so much about. Why are they so good/bad

I love it. After all, Luis' design is not vintage, so why should the rest of it look that way? I would suggest a yellow mouth piece and black hoses to complete the job.

I must admit I almost fell over when I first saw it. The idea of gold plating also sounds good, but it may be a little too soft for serious diving applications.

Karl,

I give it a "10" for boldness, but I still think that you should have painted University of Florida Gator Blue & Orange!

I like his "flair" for something original.....I know I had a few rocks thrown at me the 1st time I sold powder coated regulators.....I have yet to have someone complain after their purchase though....

I still hold out that all scuba gear should be in colors......as long as those colors are black....

Thanks for the great comments. I am still kicking around what to do on the label. I will probably paint a DA label black for now but long term I will have Jerry make a custom label. I am working on several naming ideas. I plan to add the super strech hoses and a new yellow mouthpiece to finish it out. I can't wait to dive it at Portage!

My next custom reg might be a gold plated Royal and have Jerry make me a faux 25th anniversary label.
