Sports Ways Water Lung

Picked this up for twenty bucks. Is it rebuildable or just a wall hanger? I haven't even put it on a tank yet so I have no idea of condition. just thought it looked neat.

At $20 you stole it so good news there. I looked over all the SW stuff I have and don't have anything specific about the reg. The 61 catalog has some internal details of the regs sold that year and the Dual Air is listed in that catalog so odds are the internal parts are very similar (same??) as the diagrams. NOS Parts are going to be pretty much nonexistant so any attempt to restore it is going to be a challange. According to the sales catalog, the second stage is a tilt valve, that is likely going to be the most difficult part of restoration. If you do decide to take it apart, please shoot some photos of it, I would love to see how it comes apart.

With enough determination and a little help here and there, most any reg can be made to work. Ask for a little help finding parts if necessary, and something might turn up. I don't have one of these regs, but maybe someone on the forum has figured out a suitable replacement for the demand diaphragm... anyone know?

The high pressure seat is likely the cone-shaped nylon one. That could be tricky but not impossible to find, and yours might be refurbished on a small lathe if it leaks. I haven't tried refinishing one of these seats yet, but I do have one that needs it, so I'll give it a try when I get caught up. Contact me if you need some help with that.

BASIC SCUBA, by Roberts, has exploded view and servicing information that can be helpful if you can get your hands on a copy.

If I get curious and take it apart Herman I will get you some pictures. I wouldn't mind changing diaphragms and o rings but if the seats aren't leaking I won't touch them. at the same time I also picked up another da for $100 that looks ready to dive and a Voit 50 fathom for $50 that I'm going to tackle first with a little advise one witch parts to order from Bryon to restore it. the sports ways just looked neat but if I knew witch parts to order I would fix it up just for fun. I guess they are right when they say one double hose is not enough.

Diaphragms and seats are NOT impossible to find? I have both available at www.Thescubamuseum.com .
The waterlung 2 hose regs are very cool indeed and I dive all three varieties that I have regularly. It is a shame tat they are so hard to find today.
In fact I have one for sale( the more rare NE Divers version that is), rebuilt with new old stock diaphragm and seat on my site right now.
The orig hose assembly may be a little disappointing, so you may want to replace it with a better USD or Voit version, JMO.

Rob, there were 2 versions of the WL reg, a balanced and an unbalanced. The HP seats were different per the parts breakdown- I have not seen the balanced one before so I am basing that solely on the parts breakdown in Basic Scuba. Do you have both seats?

It may be ready for a swim test after I clean up some old crooked hoses. It was running high enough IP it ruined my test gauge now it's running 110-115 steady according to my digital dive computer. I reused the original main diaphragm and made a new HP diaphragm from one used in a DAAM and trimmed down a bit. I also used an extra duck bill valve for the exhaust vent. I think I'm in this for about 30$ now. The tilt secondary valve does leak a bit but not much.

never mind, took it for a dive test today and the IP is way up again. time for a new seat maybe.
