My first DHR Acquisitions

Wed Nov 20, 2013 9:35 pm

Just acquired a couple of "Sweet" DHRs. One a DA and the other a Royal Aquamaster. I tested the units in an indoor pool this weekend and both breath quite smoothly in all positions (even standing on my head in the deep end). The previous owner of the Royal was kind enough to include a copy of the service manual which I placed online if anyone would like to have a copy:

Would like to hear from anyone with advise on getting these checked out prior to putting into service. It's getting too cold for me to dive this year so I have plenty of time to have these serviced.

Cheers to all!

Double Hose Service click here

If you click on that big tab at the top of the main page you can download just about every variation of the service manual for any USD Regulator...Plus about 3GB of catalogs and other service manuals.

The search feature is also a fantastic feature of the forum with hundreds if answere to just about any question.

The Royal is 70-72 model, the DA is 65-69.
Unless someone has gone through them in the last few years with parts from VDH, I can pretty much assure you the internal rubber parts are getting stiff and need replacing. Those parts were originally rubber and get stiff with time, odds are they are original parts which makes them 40+ years old. There has been a lot of improvement in those parts in the last few years, esp the diaphragm. They may be serviceable but unless you just want to keep it original, at a minimum you will want to upgrade alll the internal rubber parts and replace the HP seat. It will make a big improvement in the performance of the reg. Then there are upgrades you may want to consider like the HPR (new designed second stage)and the Phoenix nozzle. If you don't want to go the Phoenix route, then you will likely want at least one of the regs to have a long yoke (they may have them already, can't tell from the photos) so you can use a banjo with them. A banjo allows you to put a SPG between the tank and reg.

Thanks for the response Herman - Looking forward to hooking up with you and your crew when the water warms next year. Here is a view of the yokes.

Looks like one of each, a short one on the DA for sure. If the yoke screw is original on the DA, that dates it to 64 or 65, they changed to the tire looking one in 66.
