Help needed recovering dive gear

Mon Dec 24, 2012 10:09 am

On Saturday, December 15th, a dive accident at the Monterey Breakwater almost claimed the life of student diver Kerry Franciscovich of Napa.

During one of the skill lessons on her first open water training dive, Kerry inhaled a large quantity of sea water and was rescued by her fiancé Scott Cassell (who was nearby, observing the dive), and assisted on shore by the U.S. Coast Guard and several other helpful divers in the area. Fortunately, Kerry survived the incident, and after several days on life support and intensive care in the hospital she is now at home recovering. Scott and Kerry are grateful to the people who helped save her, cared for her, and for the support they are receiving from the diving community.

During the rescue and rush to the hospital, both Scott and Kerry’s personal dive gear was left at the scene and apparently recovered by other divers. California Diver is seeking your assistance in recovering Kerry and Scott’s dive gear. With large medical bills and the trauma of a near-death experience, it’s the least we can do as a community to help them out.

One of Scott's missing items is a U.S Divers DA – Aqua Master Serial# 251539 with a Phoenix Adapter.

If you have recovered any of this gear or know someone who did, please contact California Diver Magazine at the link provided in their original article:

Very sorry to hear this. Scott was very excited about diving with his double hose. I hope all ends well for them both.

I read that report, it sounds terrible. I am very happy it seems his wife will be OK. Hopefully the gear was taken by other divers for the purpose of returning it to them. It is a big city there so perhaps it will take them some time to make the journey/connections to return the gear. But the irreplaceable item, his wife, very lucky, very fortunate she will recover.

Unfortunately his gear is probably gone.
I had my entire rig lifted from the back of my truck a few years ago right from the BW parking lot while I rinsed my drysuit in the outside shower. I thought if I parked close enough to the bathrooms it was safe...NOT!
The good thing is his old lady is ok, gear can bought again.

Scott was in touch with me today and on the good side she is doing much better....The story around the incident reads like a some kind of weird horror novel. I don't think it's something we will discuss here for obvious reasons.

No one has called or said anything to him about their gear.... Each Phoenix nozzle has an individual number unique to it so if you see one on E-bay, Craigs list etc let me know.
