Testing Camera

Sun Jul 01, 2012 12:20 pm

This was done with my new Intova HD camera. It's a direct competitor of GoPro. I'm a distributor through Trident so let me know if you are interested. My main reason for purchasing it was to attempt to do some good quality double hose training and demonstration videos. Plus we have some new stuff coming out that will need some flashy underwater footage. Swimjim will be in the editing booth hopefully! Check out my "creative" mask attachment....I think the quality is very good and YouTube does not do it justice because of compression.

Herman I'll E-mail you the price. I can't publish it or I'll get in the dog house with the distributor. Trying to pass along some savings to the VDH customers. I am already ordering for other customers and I plan on placing the order on Thursday. If you want one before you leave for Bonaire I'll get a rush on it.

As far as mounting brackets, trays etc just use what you already have. threads on the bottom of the camera are standard 1/4"x20. Tons of cheap mounting brackets out there that you guys can cut up, change and or modify to suit what you want to do with it. I'm buying the surfboard mount so I can put it on my scooter but the rest I'm going to make from stuff I already have.

Ok we got Jim in at the last minute so there will be 5 new HD Video divers very soon.

Trident will have the complete lighting line of Intova products in the next two weeks. I will post the info as it arrives and I'll match any advertised price to keep the business here at VDH.

I'll plan on doing another order on the 23rd and that will give us plenty of time to deliver before Portage Quarry's super diving extravaganza!

Evidently the E-mail part or the forwarding part of the E-mail on the forum is not working....You are the 2nd person who said they sent me E-mail but I didn't get it...Don't worry James I can order for you in a couple of weeks when I order lighting stuff.

Bryan, no worries, maybe we can have a second buy for the stragglers. Yeah, I clicked the link but it could be my fault, perhaps my new computer did not use the live.com email and instead used this stupid Apple thing it keeps defaulting too. I should have emailed you again when I did not get your usual immediate response.

Yeah, I will take one, but do not get to any trouble over it, :D

For you who have ordered or are thinking about one of these cameras, you will need a microSD card to go with it. I did some digging to see what info I could turn up as the manual is not too clear on the subject and I thought the rest of you might could use the info.....or maybe correct something I don't understand, a lot of this is a SWAG. As best as I can find, a 32gb card will hold about 8 hrs of 720 video, I found no mention of 1080 but I would think it should be in the 4 or 5 hr range. Per the manual, the battery life is in the 2.5 hr range with the LCD off so my guess is it's more like 2 hrs. Which all brings me to what SD card do I need/want. Since the probable battery life is in the 2 hr range, that means I am going to have to connect the camera to a computer to charge every 2 hrs so I see no need for much more than 2 hrs worth of storage. I will download the video while the camera recharges. Based on my guess of 4 or 5 hrs of video at 1080 on a 32gb card, looks like a 16gb would give me 2 to 3 hrs of storage at 1080. Then there is wheather to use 720 or 1080. I am thinking that I will swap back and forth a few times and see if there is much difference, my gut feeling is 720 will be fine, lets face it, this is not a high end camera.

I have found a good deal on microsd card at Tiger Direct, 16gb class 10 for $16 and 32gb class 4 for $20, free shipping on both. The cost differential is minimal but there appears to be a speed difference in the cards....not exactly sure what the difference in a class 4 vs. a class 10 is but considering the manual recommends "at least" a class 4, my guess is a class 10 is faster. This brings up another consideration, how long does it take to download the video. My guess is a class 10 will download faster than a class 4 so more to think about when ordering a card. I think I am going to go with a 16gb class 10. And by the way, whatever card you get, be sure you have an adapter to read it with. Most laptops today have an SD reader slot but not one for the micro….the cards at TD include the adapter. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... ey=microsd
