La Jolla is a great place to visit. You'll definately have a ton of fun there. I haven't been in years and I have to wonder if the little green taco place is still on Mission Beach. Had fake colorful iguanna's all over the place. Awesome food.

and perhaps a little dive guidance around San Diego area:

La Jolla cove is the "Birthplace of American Sport Diving." It and the Bottom Scratchers dive club was featured in a 1949 Nat Geo article.

Just around the bend from a little south from La Jolla cove is "Mi Casa Cove" AKA "Scrips Cove." It is an area where seals pull out and sun on the beach it is also a traditional popular dive spot. Currently there is a huge battle (aka War!) going on between the divers and a small group of tree huggers who want to protect the seals from the nasty old divers--If you are still in the area on Saturday it is a side show worth seeing--and meeting up with the divers for a free fish taco or two prepared right on the sand.

Between La Jolla Cove and Scrips (SIO) is La Jolla Shores--looks can be deceiving..It is the beach access to one of the three fingers of La Jolla Canyon..Drops off very fast--the two other Canyons are at Alligator point at La Jolla cove and the pier at SIO

Just up the hill is Scrips (SIO)that has a fantastic Aquarium which is open to the public. Well worth the time and effort to visit.

Thanks everyone! I'm in LaJolla, Ca on a trip with some girlfriends. No diving on this trip, but I did stop at a dive shop and talked with one of the guys there. They do shore dives today and thursday, right at the cove, which is basically downtown. We went there, and the sign says the cove was an eco friendly area since 1972 and everything has regenerated and supposed to be very beautiful. On one side is the town perched on the cliffs, at the bend in the cove is the little beach area, next to the smelly seals and birds all over the big rocks, and at the same time you see all of these beautiful sights there are people para sailing off the cliffs up by Torrey Pines where we are staying.
I am heading out now and hope to get some realy great shots and hope to be able to share some soon.

Hi Barb,
Francie and I are going to CA late in the summer, and would like to include a day of diving at LaJolla Cove. If you liked the people at the dive shop, please let me know who to contact. Looks simple enough except for finding a place to park! It would probably be worth paying them to take us, and I would like to go with a local expert on our first dives there. We were there a couple of years ago, but didn't have time to dive there, but did dive at Catalina. Thanks for any info!

Thanx again for all of the birthday wishes from all over the world. I made it back and have been busy loading my photos so I can bore you with some.
This was my first trip to Southern California, and I had a wonderful time. We only had 3 full days to explore and there just wasn’t enough time to do everything.
As you know I was there for my birthday.

We ate at several nice places the Brockton Villa and George’s both in La Jolla, offer a really great view of the cove.

The cove is pretty stinky from all the seals and birds, but it was really beautiful and as you can see there are people there at the beach.

I would have liked to visit the dessert, and I didn’t make it to Mission Beach, Sitka Diver but did learn that Charles Lindbergh flew a glider off the cliffs over looking La Jolla in 1928.
Sam, I did see a lot of parks, museums and buildings with the name Scripps, and just didn’t have enough time to make it to the aquarium. It looks like Rob and I are going to have to make a trip out your way so we can see so many of the things I missed.
Antique Diver I did stop in at I.B. Divers, 6924 LaJolla Blvd. Of course I dropped off a pen from The Scuba Museum and mentioned Vintage Double Hose. I shared our story of diving the Sea Hunt Anniversary at Silver Springs. The guy I talked to was Brian, and he did tell me that at their main location at 641 9th Street, in Imperial Beach they have a couple of double hose regs on display. He told me that they dive at LaJolla cove on Tues & Thurs. The water temp the day I was there as 59. While he was a nice guy I really can’t recommend them, maybe Dr. Miller can share some insight on this.
I enjoyed my trip and loved all of the sunsets
