Yea, we get one or 2 off the coast every year. I have heard of severl dive boats that have been circled but so far, no one has had any trouble out of them....still, not something I care to see.

Not sure which I would rather not see while diving, the whites off NC or the gators in Silver River. Wait, there once was a gator that was thinking about dining on some dude from then Missouri.

The great thing about Lake Michigan is the only shark who will ever circle your boat works for the department of natural resources and only wants to take a chunk out of your wallet. LOL

Chickens.... on the other hand, the sand tiger sharks here are really cool...Had one pass me within a few feet (8-10 ftr) turn and swmim along side me for the better part of a wreck last year...and I was solo. Unnerving to say the least but cool as well.

Off topic a little but I have found us another dive op in the Keys. While at the dive show I got to talking to the new owner of a dive op I had used in the past and ask about diving vintage. He said no problem at all, double hose regs and no BC were fine with him, maybe SD 2013?

My friend Chompie (seen below) is not even in the same LEAGUE as the shark in the video. It's like comparing a Chihuahua to a rabid badger on crack   ...Unless spearfishing I don't even worry about them that much and enjoy the challenge of their company. I've had a few close calls that made me wish for dry land but I'd be walkin on water if that behemoth was circling the dive boat.

We just lost another person to a great white here in Australia. There were three in 8 weeks and now another one. One was an American. I remember someone on this site saying sharks are harmless. One of the employees at the Melbourne Aquarium was bitten recently too. However, it was a small bite to the face. When I dived there I was wearing standard dress, but my son has scuba dived in there.

Gators, no problem. Did I ever tell the story about floating down a gator infested bayou in the middle of the night during a "special operation".

If I told you I would have to kill you.

It was the result of the nephew of Anastasio Somoza Debayle the president of Nicaragua who lived in New Orleans and was suspected of arms smuggling. The rest of the story may have to wait until Sand Dog.

I think it was Captain who told us he was fishing out of a 17 foot canoe and came across a gator longer then the canoe! I think he said he laid in the bottom of the boat until the gator moved on.

- I saw a video of Manny Puig "The Shark Man" riding tiger sharks on Netflix the week before I went on vacation to Maui. It got me to wondering how much that guy gets away with just by being confident rather than afraid. I swear this big tiger shark was like his slave by the time he rode it over and over, like he established himself as alpha male over it or something.
- Then there was that video of the french photographer with the new Mystral double hose that swam next to a huge white shark.
- These guys can't just be "lucky" all the time... There has to be something in the way they behave around these sharks that keeps the shark from attacking. Anybody know more about that?

Up north the divers like to joke that they don't have shark problems, the 'crocs' eat them! This video will give you an idea why they say that. The crocs are ocean going and swim in some diving areas.
