Second Stage Seat

Mon Feb 13, 2012 11:31 pm

Guy,
Just ordered from Bryan some second stage seats for my Second stage seat holder. My question is:

1) What kind of glue do I need to use for the second stage seat.....I tried the GEL TYPE SUPER GLUE.. it seems that it does not adhere too good I was able to pull the seat out with no effort at all.(Clean the holder really good).Your answer for sure will help me a lot with my project.

Thanks,
Boyet

None, they should fit snugg as is. All that is required is that they not fall out.

Been using super glue for at least the last 6 years without issue. I think they were originally installed using neoprene cement. Very little chance of them coming out anyway.
Doing it right should include some common sense, not just blindly following specs and instructions. .Gary D, AWAP on SB

When you stuck the seat in, how long did you let it set before trying to remove it? I only ask because cyanoacrylates (most super-glues) polymerize in the presence of some degree of moisture - this is why fingers bond very quickly, while putting impermeable things together take longer because it takes some time for moisture present in the air to permeate into the glue. Might have been the reason. If you watch Bryan's video about the 2nd stage (found in the download section) and follow the recommendations given in the video, you'll be golden.

Drado,
Thanks for the info, I think I know the problem, I am using Super glue and the garage temp is around 27-34 F ,the low temp is causing the glue to fail. I have to do it at 50 to 75 F for it to cure.
Thanks again,

I have used super glue for years as well. I even went as far as calling them. It is oxygen safe when it is cured as well.

I don't use glue anymore. I used to, many years ago, but after a while I couln't see any need for it. IMO, if the seat fits snug in the carrier it just can't go anywhere.

YMMV

I know they are cheap and I keep some one hand but not glueing them gives you the option to turn the seat over and use the back side if you are badly in need of a seat in a hurry.
