Vintage Diving Films

Thu Feb 02, 2012 2:53 pm

While wasting time searching on archive.org I came across some videos that may interest some of you. The first is one of Cousteau's early short films. In it you can see where the shipwreck pictures from The Silent World were taken. The others are training films for U.S. Navy helmet divers circa WWII. The first is subtitled as The Technique of Diving and the second is described as "diving dress and characteristics of each part, dangers of underwater pressure and how to avoid injury of it. How the suits are prepared and inspected before diving." Both were filmed at Silver Springs, Florida.

I have a few of those films in the store that I purchased from a vendor in IMEB.....I uploaded the one of Cousteau diving the double hose to the VDH Facebook page.

Thank you very much for sharing!
Doing it right should include some common sense, not just blindly following specs and instructions. .Gary D, AWAP on SB
