Custom Regulators

Mon Nov 21, 2011 9:56 pm

While doing some thinking today it occured to me of all the ideas a person can come up with to personalize a double hose regulator. One of the reasons why they can be personalized so well is that they have such a large surface area and therefore can hold lots of possibilities. My question is how far can you go to customize a regulator. Has anyone else thought about really tricking one out to make it super unique? Just curious. I working on an idea but am looking to hear from others who may have some weird ideas too.
Someone told me that diving a double hose reg will kill me. I had no idea these things were dangerous.

Is that a gardenhose with electrical tape? I was trying to think of a way to make a metal mouth "T" that would use a modern comfortable mouth piece. Then if that works, rig a LP hose with a purge button or a low pressure bypass valve that could clear a flooded hose or provide a limited freeflow in an emergency.

Holy Home-Job… that’s the worst thing I’ve ever seen!

I’ve found better plumbing under 40 year-old house trailers… Is that a garden hose??? The only thing I can see missing is that you might should have substituted some chewing gum in place of the Teflon tape…

I once considered rigging a sail for my aluminum rowboat out of a crank-up patio umbrella and 2 old dog leashes… but this,… this is in a whole other category.

If you took even two breaths off it under water and lived to tell the tail, then my infernal leaky RAM has NO excuses for EVER not working!

Glad to see a dust cap on the yoke, wouldn’t want to risk anything when not on the tank.

I tip my hat sir, that contraption required a true visionary!!!

Why would you want any of that on a double hose :?

How about a Trieste body in a USD top box, with a Snark bottom box as others have done.... Then lose the label followed by some custom engraving on the cans like on the bumper on this. Hmmmmm....

The FX ULTIMUS.
It is made to offend no one, cater to all ideas of double hose diving, and make new members of VDH have the ultimate orgasms. From the rainbow colored hoses for our alternate live-style friends, to the camo-colored mouthpiece for those macho GI Joes, the carefully and politically correct colors will compliment any desired look. The PETA inspired cans will make the animal lover droll with envy. The pink label to signify your concern for women's issues will match so well with your pink powder coated tanks. We have also installed our "ivory and ebony" hose clamps to complete this regulator that just sings out with the melody from "Cumbayá", the famous words, "Yes, we can all get along". Truly, a new regulator that will soon become a classic, far more popular than those old, worn out DAs, Royals, Mistral, etc.

Yes, I love the smell/taste of air from a green plastic garden hose. It reminds me of my early days of diving with my homemade hookah rig at age 12. :) Further explanantions to follow soon.

You might start your quest for the metal tee at a hardware store. Look for a 3/4 or 1" copper pipe tee made for sweat fitting (soldering). Carefully shape the branch of the tee into a slightly oval shape with a vise, very gently a little at a time to keep from crimping the copper. You will end up with a place to mount your mouthpiece, but then you will need hoses with both ends 1". I am using one like this on an early Broxton. Maybe you can find a tee that will have larger run ends and the smaller branch so you can use 1-1/2 hose ends.

Gee 8Dust, I'm hurt that you don't like my reg, but laughing my butt off at your comments!  .

I put this together as a joke in the 70's and took it on an Advanced Class in the San Marcos River (deepest spot 15'). I actually had to loan it to one of my students who had purchased a new Dacor 900 regulator from me and it blew the hp seat on the first dive. (BTW, the original Nemrod hose is under the garden hose)
