DEMA 2011

Wed Nov 02, 2011 5:25 pm

Lots of great stuff to look at....Not a lot for the strictly vintage diver but if you are into technical or reabreather type diving you would be in the right place. Lots more travel than I remember.....Met a lot of nice people and picked up a couple of product lines that VDH/TSS may carry some of in the future...Even found some RUBBER oval masks and Cressi Rondine fins that I think some of you may like.
AquaLung has a tremendous amount of tactical/technical/reabreather stuff on display....
For those of you who know Chris DeFelice (out Weekie Wachee contact)His "Rapid Diver" project looks like it has come to full fruition and he has some really cools stuff that I will get some pictures of later.
I posted a bunch of pictures on the VDH facebook page that you can peruse if you like...They STRONGLY discourage photography at the event so forgive the poor quality camera phone pictures... Oh and Scuba Radio gave away mermaids when you entered the facility....Gotta get there early for the good stuff!!!

Great stuff at DEMA today.

1. Found a great RUBBER Squale style mask with band clamp and bolt. Very well made, comfortable and excellent finish work. Made in France and soon to be in the VDH store...I think for around $35.00

2. Met the new HDS president and I think we have ironed out all the issues between VDH and HDS and I look forward to doing more work together in 2012....You gotta see the new issue of HDS magazine..Full Color history of Voit Double Hoses and Sea Hunt!! Amazing work by Ed Rochelle.

3. Body Glove is anxious to make us vintage cut/style wetsuits. They have checked with their shop and production and it's all possible. They just need some details and direction and we are ready to go.

10000psi cylinders, cannon from The Pinta.....lots of other neat stuff...

Click on the link to see picture from days one and two....You can stay current and up to the minute on what's happening on the VDH facebook page...

Great photos! Enjoyed the ones of the O2 rebreathers. Is there any chance of those folks selling a DSV that would fit our standard size reg hoses? One that wouldn't break the bank??

Since I am not an AquaLung dealer nor do I want to become one they don't have a lot to say to me...I am surprised that they let the rest of us look at the display for free.....I wish I was only kidding about this

Don't worry Ernie....Be paitent and I bet you see one that works on your double hose in the not so distant future

The manifold reduces it down to 3000 psi so it will work with all regulators.....CRAZY STUFF...

The company is also selling a high volume compressor and I was there when our buddy Wayne from Amigos was there discussing how much air he goes through in a month....The sales rep told him that he doubted that his volume would tax this compressor....Wayne told him that he pumped over 100000 cubic feet per month up in cave country.....The sales rep got real quiet...
I told the rep if it really was as good as he said they should give one to Wayne for a year and let him report back on it 12months later if it lived..

If you go by the Manta/Privateer Divers guys say hi for me. I did a Trade Mark for Ricky and they are used to seeing me with my 72's and a DH roll off their boat.

I think Rick said something about thinking he was going to die on the trademark - but is was the first trade mark I ever tried to set up so I may have screwed it up a bit.

DEMA is over and I am kinda thankful!
Too many people to talk to and too much BS to cut through.
I missed Bernie and Phil.....The demands on every moment of those guys time is waaaaaaay beyond anything I could stand!!
Bob Meistrell/Body Glove is 110% on board with making vintage suits...Please E-mail me if you are interested in a custom vintage suit from the premier mfg still producing suit here in the US...
I have samples of two of the best Vintage mask reproductions I've seen to date. The factory rep and his wife are super nice people and are doing their best to coordinate shipment between France and Florida before our Black Friday sale. Masks are made from rubber in Marseille France. They have that out of the box rubber smell that many of you will remember...YES they can make them in colors if I'll pay up front for 2000 pieces....Not going to happen.... Buy one of these masks and if you don't think it's superior to anything else vintage style just send it back and I'll refund you 100% no questions asked.
This IS NOT the inexpensive reproduction of the oval masks you have seen in the past.

Two new distributors I talked with and think their product line will be available to us very soon

Marine Sports Manufacturing Catalog

And A-Plus Marine Supply Inc.

I would be interested in a wet suit. I have Harvey's beaver tail one, but it is off the rack and does not fit me very well. What price point are we looking at for the BG suit? Also, I would be interested in new masks. If we had wet suits and soft goods, that would eliminate another barrier to vintage diving which is the generally poor quality of rubber goods on Ebay/the net. I couldn't even count how many rotten masks, poorly fit wetsuits, and crappy fins I have purchased.

I'm not a business guy, and we all know that, but if VDH became a one stop shop for all your vintage diving needs (even more so than it already is), that may remove a few of the remaining entrance barriers for new people.

I have not worked out details on the suit with Body Glove hopefully I can get caught up and work with them a bit next week.
The masks are winners for sure and even thought they won't appeal to everyone I know the traditionalist will love them.
If you order one and don't agree it's everything I'm saying simply return it. I think I'll have trouble keeping them in stock for a while!

Really, if the store stocks or has the capability to order wet suits, and has masks, there is little left that a diver cannot buy right here. Maybe throw a couple of 72's in stock for the new people, but that's about it. Maybe stock some Navy air tables and Buhlmann IANTD tables.
