I am a big James Bond Fan but I was diving before Thunderball so I couldn't be inspired by bond. Cousteau adventures fascinated me and I started diving.

I too am a big James Bond / Thunderball fan, but Cousteau gets my vote. I vividly remember seeing the Undersea World of Jaques Cousteau when I was little. That's what inspired and influenced me.

I voted for VOIT. It was my first reg and I can't ever forgive my first love.
But if I could not have Voit I would have to go Cousteau.

I like the Mike Nelson character but truthfully I cannot say any of them inspired me to do anything. My older neighbor/best friend took scuba, he was three years older than me, and we were friends so my mom sprung for the "scuba lessons" and my dad helped me get some gear and my instructor was, next to my father, the most awe inspiring man I had ever met, at that time of being a 12yo. So, I had plenty of role models, none of them were on TV.

It's hard to top this:

but, James Bond is great, so long as he looks like Sean Connery. Ursula Adress with a white bikini and her diving knife completes the picture.

However, my real hero was not listed and thus I abstained. Hans Hass may not qualify, as his double hoses usually lead to an M138 Drager rebreather. However, he dived the Drager PA-61, the Heinke Lung and the Nemrod Snark III as well.

Now my fingers are crossed, as I wait for my System Hans Hass Heinke fins and mask to arrive from an eBay.UK auction. Does anyone know of a Drager M138 for sale, with 'Hans' or 'Lotte' written on it? Steve

Nemrod you are very lucky that your parents were so supportive. I was interested in diving before Mike Nelson, however he really was my inspiration. I wanted to take scuba lessons so badly but had to wait till I was in college. My parents were wonderful loving parents, but a bit over protective. BY the time I took lessons, I already knew most of it already, and it was easy. I also took flying lessons when I turned 16, and they did not support that either, I worked hard to earn the money to fly, and i did not even have a car at the time. I remember Thunderball, and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and still watch them from time to time on video. I was fascinated by the different colored wet suits in VTBS.
