USD/Voit Divers Watches

Fri Feb 12, 2010 2:04 pm

I just scored a Voit Skin Divers watch (SDW-2, 1962-63), and am wondering if anyone knows what company made these watches. USD catalogs from the same time period show divers watches that look exactly the same, only with Aqualung logos.
It's a 17 jewel automatic Swiss Made, with the words "Voit Super Waterproof" and "Incabloc" on the watch face. Back side has numbers 1573/666.
Could this possibly be a Doxa-made watch? Thanks in advance..

Douchebag will probably know. He's very knowledgable about all things related to watches (and many other things to boot)... 8)

It could be. Doxa made watches for a very long time. Will know for sure after they get it apart. In any case it's a nice watch, and an expensive one in it's day. Sold for over $600 in today's dollars.
Can't wait to get it back from servicing, this is going to be uber cool.. :D 8)

Well, I am not a watch expert but the case design is not that of the typical DOXA, the faux Rolex style is not what DOXA normally does as they have their own unique and less copied style. But, if they are, great, just don't think so--as a owner of a real DOXA, lol.

It probably doesn't have Doxa innards, but that's perfectly fine with me. I'm mainly just curious as to who made the Voit & USD watches, since they are the same. Obviously some Swiss company. I did find out a little more though. The "1573" on the back and the "Incabloc" markings indicate the internals were made between 1956 and 1960.
The watch strap was made by the Swiss "Tropic" company, who provided straps for many different brands of sport watches in the '60s & '70s. I also found out that the "waterproof" marking and the tritium used on the watch face are no longer allowed to be used. Interesting stuff..

The m/h hands and the date square are a bit Doxa'ish.

He does wonders with vintage dive watches, check out his photo galleries!

Thanks for the link, I'll have to give them a call..

Yeah, I've been wanting one of those in the worst way, and the opportunity finally happened. :)
I'm also waiting to hear from Dave. I think Karl has one of these watches; maybe he has some info on them as well..

Just paint DOXA on it then like the Ricers with fake NOS. The exposed crown, the Rolex styling, the rubber straps do not look DOXA, the hands kind of do on one of them but I have a mechanical winder from Bulova that looks like DOXA with similar hands.

One issue with DOXA is the pins tend to pull out. I have not had this problem with my current Sub but I have had on the one I traded in for this one.

http://www.equationoftime.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is a list type forum with people who could identify that watch. Or, just pretend it is a DOXA and be happy.

Rob, emilio largo could identify it I bet, he has a watch fetish, lol.

Nem, I don't need for it to be a Doxa. It could have "Joe's Watch Factory" on the inside and I wouldn't care. It says Voit on the outside, and that's all that matters.. :D
