Hi Greg,

Can you tell me what primer you used on the bare brass under the blue paint? Can I assume the blue was a lacquer and not an enamel? Also, did you polish the brass with a buffing wheel or some other tool?

The shop used a primer designed for base coat/clear coat paints. The paint was a modern mix that is designed for new cars. I polished the brass with progressively finer grits of steel wool. I finished the job with 0000 grade, which is the finest. I spent more than two hours getting the polishing just right.

Does anyone have a manual for a 50 fathom that I can get a copy of, either PDF or paper? I just got mine back from powder coating. I am reassembling it and getting it ready for testing. I believe that I am missing the nozzle and the opening does not point down either of the horns.

If you mean the downstream 2nd stage VCR-2 50 Fathom......I think there is some info in Basic Scuba 1st addition....I don't have any printed material that I know of.

The blue can Voit 50 fathom did not have a nozzle. The air was passed through a hole and it was NOT pointed down the nozzle. A couple of years ago there was an extensive discussion on the other vintage forum about the regulator. One of the suggestions was to rotate the mechanism so that the hose pointed toward the nozzle. I did this to mine and the results were VERY noticeable. There is a small pin that kept the mechanism in position in the can. However when the guts are rotated, the pin holes do not line up. You could drill another hole in the can, but I have found that keeping everything tight with the yoke nut works fine. With a set of gray silicone hoses, this reg is really cool.

I did exactly what Allan did to his and it was noticible. No nozzle in mine either. Enjoy the reg.
