New(to me) Mistral

Fri Nov 30, 2007 7:38 pm

I finally remembered to take "before pictures" of a regulator.
Image

And this is why you NEVER breathe out of a regulator before tearing it down :)
Image
Those (very blurry) bits of crap in the can? Spider body parts.
Image
The white stuff on the diaphragm? Spider webbing and bug bits.
Image
Thankfully, the mechanism looked ok.
Image
And it cleaned up just fine. Time to order a rebuild kit!

Is that the remnants of the duckbill in the third picture or did a cat happen to use your mistral as a litter box?

Cleaner?

Sat Dec 01, 2007 10:19 am

Did you use Bryan's miracle mix for the cleaner...Salt X? I just used some for a first or second year DA project along with a a rebuild kit and new diaphragm. Man is it sweet now. I am trying to find some paint to match the blue as I have few small chips and want to try to fix it. Any ideas on a new number for the blue paint? Probably should have it scanned. Or yet get a FAUX label. Looking good on the Mistral. How did the levers turn out?:D
First dives? 1967 and I never lost the fever.

No, most of the crud was corrosion deposits(well, other than the rotten duckbill), so a 45 minute bath in white vinegar cleaned it all off.

As for painting, you should look here: http://www.vintagedoublehose.com/forum/ ... .php?t=466

Personally, I usually take all the paint off and then use the blue paint to redo it. That way, you don't have to try to match the color perfectly. If it's not gone far enough to bother with that, I leave it alone :)

And make sure it includes a nationally distributed publication that shows the current date to ensure authenticity...

If I'm not mistaken, there were 2 "Kanswanians" at SD-IV.

3 "Kanswanians" at SD-V would be even better!

Well, it's all dependent on contracts. It's a catch-22. When I am in the middle of one, I have no time. When I'm not, I have no money. :(

I need to become independently wealthy. Yeah, that's the ticket!

Got the label repainted. It didn't come out as perfect as I was hoping, but I can live with it.
