Vintage gear in old movies

Fri Oct 19, 2007 9:35 pm

Some of you may already be aware of this, but there is a lot of cool vintage gear to be seen in the old "Creature from the Black Lagoon" trilogy. Just got done watching them all, what a hoot! :)
In the first movie it's all trademark Aqualungs and other early US Divers gear.
The second movie features Scott Hydro-Paks. Very neat to see in action!
And the third movie uses Northill Air-Lungs! I had no idea those were used. Probably one of the few times Northills can be seen in operation? Of course when I saw these movies years ago I wasn't paying attention to the types of equipment used...

Hi Captain,

Do you know of a convenient source of copies of the trilogy?

Yes! That would be Amazon. Get "Creature from the Black Lagoon: the Legacy Collection". It's only $19.99 plus shipping. There is a really great documentary included called "Back to the Black Lagoon". It has interviews with many of the surviving cast members, including Rico Browning, who played the Creature; he tells how the suit was made etc. Well worth the price!

Hi Captain,

Thanks for the heads up. I just ordered the set. The last time I saw the original movie I was about ten. I remember my brother got the plastic model kit but not much else.

No problem! :) A great set for any vintage diver. Even if they could care less about the Creature, the footage of all that cool gear in use is worth the price..
