Voit Blue 50 Fathom question

Sun Jul 22, 2007 10:02 am

I did a forum search and didn't find anything, so my question is this:
Does anyone know why the Blue 50 Fathom was only sold for one year? I have my own theories; that it's $50 dollar price tag was a threat to Polaris and Navy sales, or perhaps that the plastic housing was perceived as "cheap" and never caught on with divers. Can anyone shed light on this?

I can't really supply intelligent information. But I can say that in 1962 anything plastic or from Japan was considered inferior. Perhaps due to the bakelite era being just past plastic was looked on with distain

That's kind of what I thought, that the plastic was considered "cheap". I imagine that's why the Jet Air didn't last long either..
