Voit 50 Fathom HP valve

Sat Mar 03, 2007 9:22 pm

Has anyone ever replaced the soft seat in their Voit 50 Fathom reg? Looking at the valve stem assembly, it looks like it wouldn't be an overly difficult part to reproduce. Considering that it is a downstream valve, I would think that the material durometer and material would be similar to that used on a DA second stage poppet seat.

It probably is a DA second stage, as U.S. Divers made Voit's regulators.

Hi Greg,
I had a seat turned down flat on a lathe.

The 50 Fathom is a downstream valve assembly. It is unique to Voit, as US Divers never sold a model using the mechanism.

Jerry,

Did you have a new stem and retainer made, or the soft material refaced?

Hi Greg,

I have an extra seat if you need one. You had me a little confused about the soft material of the seat, because my seats are pretty hard like a DA high pressure seat.

Mike,

If I could borrow it for a few weeks to have engineering specs drawn up on it it would help a lot. I am going to check to see how much it would cost to reproduce them. I need to check the soft seat's durometer to see if a compartible material is available.

BTW, any luck in getting the 1976 catalog scanned?

Thanks.

Greg,

No problem on the seat, but let me know if your seat is softer than mine.

I'll email you regarding it.

I haven't got the 76 catalog scanned yet, but maybe by the end of this week.

Mike
