What I got for Christmas

Sat Dec 31, 2011 6:55 pm

My wife/Santa took great care of me this year. She got me a new USD vintage style tri-view mask, NOS in box Rocket fins, books Diver Down & Regulator Savvy. And to top it off a brand new baby girl (12/27) to go with my current collection of 2 baby girls and a baby boy. And I have an old regulator for each of em!

Happy New year to all!!
And be safe in the new year.
Ed

I picked up "Regulator Savvy" myself on the advice of this site. Excellent book. Perfect to read as you are rocking your newby back to sleep.
“A skin diver is a fellow who pulls on a pair of fancy swimming trunks, some rubber fins, a diving mask and canvas gloves, then fills his lungs with air and noses down into the ocean looking for two fisted trouble.”

Too many people mistakenly think that servicing a regulator is like "tuning up" a lawn mower or "rebuilding a carb" These same people routinely convince unsuspectign divers that they know what they are doing and are allowed to service life support equipment.
Most grasp the basics but few understand the theory and reasons behind why regulators do what they do....I work on regulators daily and I still run into stuff I don't know. I have a group of peers on VDH that I rely on for advice and I always have a copy of Regulator Saavy close by. Sometimes the best thing to do when you get stumped is STOP...Take a break and read over the section in the book that pertains to what you are working on...99% of the time the answer is in there as well as the solution..
I have permission to use pages of it as a teaching aid but I can't allow reproduction or distribution of the material....As soon as I figure out how to accomplish this there will be a lot more discussion on regulator repair and service.

I am pretty new to scuba in general. I Have had a couple classes on SCBA repair and maintenence throuh work, Similar but not the same. I have rebuilt one double hose & one single so far. Guess I fell into the trap that Bryan describes because I likend it to rebuilding a carb (done alot of those over the years) That being said, I wish I had read this book first.
