Re: What are we up to now?

Pool testing was stellar. In the surface position it was air tight with zero free flow with the regulator submerged and the mouthpiece above the water. Diving open water tomorrow with some surface swimming. Still a few changes need to be made but I am very pleased with the results so far.

The mouthpiece is clear because the 3D printer uses this type of material and it's easy to see how the O-rings are seated and working together.

- I looked it up... DSV means Dive/Surface Valve... Used to keep water out of the mouthpiece on re-breathers. This for the benefit of others like me who's dive knowledge is as vintage as our gear!
- Really looks great Bryan... And yes... I will buy one or more as soon as they're available!

The real purpose for development is to prevent free flow on the surface when you have your mouthpiece removed for surface swimming, making equipment adjustments, removal of equipment underwater and others scenarios I haven't thought of yet.

Hopefully it will carry over to some of the homemade and experimental rebreather divers that would like an affordable option to what is currently available on the market.

This is one component of a much larger body of work that is in progress.

I will admit though, I'm still confused by the schematic below:

It's a black project which will allow the participant to break free of the earths gravitational pull and allow for several times light speed once in space. It will allow you to reach the bar on Alderon with a DA and a steel 72.   Okay, just kidding..........

Swimjim, I am glad you said only kidding. It takes four hands to count how many of my posts were deleted by whoever. Next time I will say just kidding.....might just cover my azz....can I say azz?..just kidding. Since the DSV is just a component that schematic is part of a full face mask..uh, just kidding.

DSV demonstration posted on the VDH Facebook and a YouTube link. Surf was a little rough for ocean filming today (details later)

Eva and I tried to dive a location called Spanish Rocks off of Holmes beach today. Beautiful day sunny day in the high 80’s water temp 85 and we were hitting the beach just about high tide….All was good till we go out of the car and found that we had about a 10mph wind coming off the water and 2-3” seas.
Not to be deterred we swam out towards the buoy and we kept swimming and swimming. I was pulling the big flag with the covered inner tube buoy and quickly realized it was more of a sail pulling me backwards than it was a deterrent to boat traffic. We did our best to make it but without letting go of the dive flag float it was not going to happen.
On our way out of the water we were stopped by someone who was asking about dive conditions visibility etc. He started talking about my double hose and I told him who I was and he says HEY I know all about you from Scuba Board You are the guy that makes all the stuff they are talking about….He also noticed Eva was diving with 109’s and I explained we were diving out here today because we were headed to PCB in a couple of weeks and Eva had never used a BCD before and I wanted her to have a chance to get comfortable….He just stood and shook his head in disbelief and amazement. Eva told him it was the truth and until today she had been diving only vintage….

Nice You Tube video.

The DSV mouthpiece looks like it works great and it seals well.

A very interesting observation is when you open the mouthpiece and the regulator goes into a free flow. With the assistance of the venturi, the free flow is so powerful that air goes past the mouthpiece and out the exhaust.

Done with # 002 Phoenix. Not even a MOD II. I did put an HPR in it. The real test was while I was doing two long surface swims today. While the mouthpiece was in the S position not a bit of air free flowed or bubbled up thought it swimming in or out. When I was ready to go under I pulled it above water and shook out what little water is held where the mouthpiece is attached, rotated it to D and exhaled through it once. Not a bit of water in it and I took off on my way.

I saw that as well. That's some powerful venturi effect there! :D

Question: Based on the video and looking at the photos, is it the mouthpiece section that rotates around a fixed barrel? How hard is it to rotate, and would there be a chance of it rotating inadvertently with the reg in your mouth and the hoses twisting, or when rotating the mouthpiece doing an air-share?

The friction from the sealing O-rings is normally sufficient that you need both hands to rotate it. In theory, you may be able to grab the mouthpiece tight with your teeth and rotate the side, but that is not really practical or comfortable.

Another observation, during the demonstration, Bryan doesn’t look like he is opening the mouthpiece all the way. It actually looks like he is barely opening it.
