LOOKING FOR A VOIT EXPERT

Mon Aug 13, 2007 8:38 pm

I have noticed the voit 50 fathom in both a light blue and a blue matching the label. As i believe the 50 fathom was painted blue for only the years 59 and 60-- it went chrome in 61---does anyone know if voit used two colors during those two years or are the cans being repainted incorrectly ? I remember seeing a tank in the light blue or perhaps my memory like the rest of my body is screwed up.

The original ones that I have seen appear to be the same color. Of course, some may have faded from the UV light. A comparison of the cans' interior colors should reveal if two different shades were used. When I had mine repainted, I had a Dupont dealer match the paint using a color scanning device. The match was perfect, as compared to two different originals.

You are correct that the 50 Fathom was Blue in 1959 and 1960. The single 71.2 cu ft tank was also blue with white top and bottom. Here is a photo of the 1960 catalog showing the blue painted tank.

Here's a photo of my blue-painted tank from the 1960 catalog.. :D
Note the large white V on the "Voit Safety Tank". The "V" is made of white reflective tape.
This particular tank has a 4/60 date, and just passed hydro with flying colors; even retained its plus rating.. not bad for a 47 year old tank.. :)
Quick Robin, to the Voitmobile!
