Nemrod Snark Owner Question?

Sat Jan 13, 2007 9:48 am

Do any of you own a USD and a Snark two hoser ? If so have you tried using a USD main diaphragm in a Snark?
I was told by a diver with a lot of experience that it could be done and that it worked well. My experience with the Nemrod line is just about ZIP! If anyone has their regulators apart and could check for me that would be great! I'd like to be able to post that info for divers that need restoration parts for their Nemrod two hosers. Thanks!

Hello Bryan, I own an early sixties vintage Snark III, a Mistral and a Pram. I haven't tried a diaphram swap. No need. I can tell you that the clamp ring will not work on the snark as I tried that. The issue there was the snark has skinnier lips on its cans so you couldn't tighten it adaquately to seal the diaphram. I think the diaphrams would be very close however. I'm about to load my van to take my Pram out to a local lake. We'll see how it performs when the thermometer is sub freezing. We've got a snow storm blowing in and unless someone else has an answer by this afternoon, I'll make the swap and find out for you.

Here is a side by side shot of the two diaphrams. The left is OEM Snark III and the right came out of my DAAM when it became a PRAM. The diameter of the two diaphrams appears to be the same. I dropped the USD diaphram in the reg, put a couple c-clips and the hoses on it and hooked it to a tank. The USD diaphram is a tiny bit thicker, otherwise it works just fine. From a functional stand point, I don't think there is a difference. FWIW, my exhaust mushroom valve was shot when I aquired my Snark. My search for a replacement was fruitless. I installed a USD duckbill and it works just fine. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the info and the photos. So do all the Nemrod 2 hosers use the same diaphragms? I want to make sure I get it right before I change the listing in the store.
