Nope, wrong Titan. Long before AL made their Titan, AMF/Voit made a single hose reg called the Titan (and Titan II). That reg used the exact same main body as the Trieste. By adding a second stage assembly to the Voit Titan and installing them in one of Robs Faux 50 Fathom cans that have been modified to accept the Voit Titan first stage, you end up with a Pegasus (see above and other Luis posts on the Pegasus). You can also use Trieste body with a new second stage assembly like Luis did or you can use the second stage and levers from a Trieste like Rob did.

So if starting with a Titan regulator body and a set of these cans, what are the remaining drop dead have to find parts to complete the setup. I have had the desire to try this for a while, but my Trieste is so nice the way it is i dont want to take it apart, and i think i might be able to scare up a old Voit Titan.

That's the rub. You have 3 options to build one, use the parts out of a Trieste, find a complete set of Trieste second stage parts (second stage housing with poppet/spring/lever) or make your own second stage assembly. That involves a good bit of machine work. The up side is if you use your Trieste, it is not a destructive change. None of the Trieste parts are damaged or modified so you can restore the Trieste any time. You also need a single stage diaphragm, duckbill and obviously you will need hoses, a mouthpiece and assorted hardware, those can be borrowed from the Trieste as well. This is a real Frankenstein project.

Trieste are expensive and harder to find, Titans were fairly inexpensive plus we just wanted to see if we could do it....or at least that is my opinion, Luis may have a different one.

On a related note to these cans being custom ground to receive the Trieste/Titan, did the hole for the body have to be opened up wider or something to receive the reg? Does anyone know if either of these cans will receive a Healthways (any version)? I'm considering tinkering around with putting together a balanced single stage from a Healthways and Conshelf and would definitely prefer to use these cans for it, if I did attempt it.

The FX cans need to be cut to accomodate the Trieste body and I have some professionally precut for sale on my site right now, but they are limited and when those are gone I may not offer this service any longer, at least not for free.

I do recall that somebody mounted a healthways body in a FX can a while back, but dont recall who it was. I know that several people have used Spirotechnique Mistrals in the FX cans with no modification.

When I did mine, it was mostly for the challenge. I bought up a mess of Voit Titans. I had some 2nd stage assemblies made at the local machine shop, and used USD Conshelf parts for the rest. I used a spare Aquamaster can for the enclosure(this was prior to Rob's wonderful cans). The only thing I would change on mine is the 2nd stage lever(and maybe putting it another, prettier set of cans). I modified a USD 2nd stage lever to fit, but I don't much like the configuration.

Well I took apart my Healthways SCUBA reg to see about the size of the body relative to the Mistral and figured I'd post what I found. The Healthways is slightly bigger by maybe a third of a centimeter, so the hole on the plastic cans could probably be filed out to a bigger size. I would file instead of drilling because the Healthways has a flat side to keep it from spinning in the can as opposed to the pin that the Mistral has. Anyway it seems like a valid possibility to me.

- Frankenstein Regulators - I only heard that term recently and it sounded negative. Luis' description sounds alot more like the positive fun I've been getting out of VDH regs and projects. Make them unique or make them fit a certain application... That's making them better, I think. My Phoenix regs are my pride and joy... And I view them as the latest and greatest in diving technology.
- Even our historically accurate restorations might be considered Frankensteins due to the improvements in new production parts: Silicon hoses, diaphragms, streamlined wagon wheels and cupped exhaust valves. I've enjoyed reading this discussion.

This thread reminded me that it's been sitting in the closet and never got it in the water.
