We wore them in the waist band of our tank harness as seen in this 1968 photo of Francie. We didn't always wear weight belts, and also figured if we had to drop a belt we might lose the snorkel when needed the most.

Now they are more likely to be in our dive bags, but sometimes it would be nice to have it more accessible. Maybe I'll find a new place to park it... maybe with inner-tube rubber bands to the tank. That would seem sort of "vintage".
The older I get the better I was.

Someone told me that diving a double hose reg will kill me. I had no idea these things were dangerous.

Well I tried to search the forum for a post I made about low cost DSVs, but I think it may have been lost in the switch over. Here are a few pics:

Hey Bryan, what happened to old posts? I remember the title "Low Cost DSV". Didn't come up in search.

Regarding swimming out (or back) on one's back. I've had pretty good success using the "combat swim" I learned from my son, who trains in martial arts with the SEALs in JAX (his sensai is a SEAL isntructor). It's a slightly modified side stroke which has the virtues of keeping both fins 100% in the water so a long power stroke can be used (unlike being on one's back) and that the swimmer is facing forward. It seems that the DH regulator doesn't free flow nearly as much either. Unless one rolls a bit to the right (assuming the swimmer's snorkel is on the left side and the swimmer is right handed), a straight J tube snorkel tends to catch too much water but a contoured one works OK
YMMV.
