I am still among the living.

The dogs that ambushed me I am sure are fine too.

I am still in the hospital, it is a pretty severe injury, broken femur below the hip, 12 inch long titanium spike inserted last night.

I am not mobile at all, in fact, quite useless and very weak.

It will be a great story someday when I gain perspective on it. The surgery went well and they tell me it is perfect and should recover--in time--100%.

I laid on the road, unconscious off and on for about an hour in 100 plus degree heat. I could not move at all nor even reach to my cell phone. I had an out of body experience. I now fully understand pain, no longer a stranger to it as of that moment on Sunday afternoon but a participant, unwilling though.

Hey I was in full afterburner trying to get home for Shark Week episode, didn't make it, other plans had been made by those higher  . Payback I am sure for other misdeed, manatees probably are relieved throughout Flariduh  .

I guess I am no longer "unbreakable" :( because I am definitely in quite a mess. I was doing about 25 MPH when I hit the dog. The doctor, he told me, asked me "you are not normal are you" and my answer was that "actually no, I am not" and I am not entirely sure of his point

I have always been star crossed.

I am confident, that I will dive with y'all again, if not until Bonaire

My bosses dropped by the hospital today and are working things out for me so all is well.

Well, the nurses are in for checking on me, later.

Thanks everybody, love,

James

James I'm sorry to hear about your accident, and hope that those nurses at the hospital can live up to the great nursing you're going to get from MC when you get home. Offering up a little prayer for your speedy recovery.

James, you are lucky to still be alive.

Between the broken femur (and not severing your femoral artery) and then lying on the road in 100 plus degree heat (and not suffering heat stroke), it is indeed a miracle.

Glad to hear that your surgery went well. You'll be back in tip-top Manatee harassing form before you know it. 8)

Take care my friend.

Wow man, you even go all out when you break bones! The femur is a good one, usually only paratroopers and guys who have been blown up get that one. Welcome to the eilte 8)

In all seriousness, I hope you feel better soon. I'm sure M.C. will be taking wonderful care of you.

That’s a real shame and a tough break for sure.
There is, however, a lot to be said for hardware.
I just about tore off my right arm 15 years ago, and were it not for some donor (cow as I understand) bone, a big long SS plate and six screws, I would have been in a very large cast for a very long time.

Repair to the bone is only half the deal, and getting the muscles back in working order is almost equally as hard. Although the idea of some heavy surgery was pretty intimidating, the hardware makes it possible to start working the muscles almost the very next day, as opposed to after months of atrophy in a cast.

You have been a great help to me here several times in the past, and I wish you nothing but good fortune and a speedy and complete recovery.

Thanks everyone, I am home now as of yesterday afternoon. They pretty much don't let people stay in the hospital anymore but now that I am home I am glad they did--send me home. My wife may soon strangle me as I am totally useless now and completely invalid, just a simple fact, I am.

Yeah, I had planned to make a showing at Portage but not going to happen this time.

I am not depressed or forlorn, I feel good most of the time, not too much pain, I think I will be getting around before most think. The swelling needs to go down some and I can start making real progress to recovery.

I have lot's of books to read and other things, maybe kinda fun, for a little while  .

The titanium rod actually has a serial number, how cool is that :D
