Vintage Diving in Canada

Our club did it's annual camp and dive at Pavilion Lake last weekend and I took along some of my vintage kit. I dove St72's and a twin 40cuft rig, Hawaiian pack, simple webbing harness, J valves, horse collar single hose and doublehose.

It was a lot of fun observing Microbiolites (calcified bacterial colonies dating 10,000 years+), fish, calcified rocks and logs and very good vis. Both dives I did with the thin wetsuit went below the thermoclines into 46F water but I'm Canadian so it was like bath night back on the prairies

Dale, looks like u had some VERY good viz! I tip my hat to you diving in a thin wetsuit in 46 degree water. I assume it was Fahrenheit as Celsius would be like 114 F?

Did another dive at Pavilion Lake this weekend. I wanted to see if a recent rockslide affected the waters.

In all, I covered about a mile of shoreline from my drop off to exit point and combined snorkeling with scuba. At the start of the video I found some underwater springs that fed cold water into the lake (above the thermocline). This caused an underwater river of cold water to flow downslope, defined by algal/fungal growth. Also present are mounds of actively growing sphagnum (peat) moss. Shown at the end are microbiolites, ancient colonies of calcified bacteria.
