"new" Old tank

Thu Aug 26, 2010 10:46 am

I just received the tank that I got on ebay. I thought I was getting a US Divers tank from the 70's. I got a surprise... It is a US Divers from 1956 with a 1/2" J valve, and in great shape.

Here are the markings:
ICC 3AA 2250
27084
RENE
6 (looks like a CL) 56 +

--S DIV --- (covered with Hydro stamps)
11201 W PICO BLVD
LA CAL

6B68+
and 6J83

I noticed that the first two hydro dates have + but the third does not.

The tank is painted black, should I strip this? or were USD tanks painted like that?

This tank had air in it before it was shipped, should i have this hydro tested and use it or should I preserve it as is? I hope to have a DA Navy to go with it soon.

Just an update. The tank passed with flying colors, and I hope to dive with it when I get it back from Portland.
