Re: Tank Identification Help

Florida is CRAZY outrageous on all this stuff....Makes it way harder than it should be to get air...

In the same vein....In 2003 my PSI certificate had long since expired. I took a clean 1/2" thread 72 into a local shop for a hydro and VIP....Trying to support my LDS!! Naturally I looked inside before I took it in....Passed hydro no problem. Shop would not put a VIP sticker on it cause the guy said...It has what appears to be a crack in the shoulder to the neck...I said there is no way a cylinder like that has a neck crack...He said well my guy just got PSI certified and he knows best around here. Then the FNG tries to tell me that ALL pipe thread valves were subject to neck cracking because the neck got stretched out each time you took the valve in and out...I just walked away.
Doing it right should include some common sense, not just blindly following specs and instructions. .Gary D, AWAP on SB

I foresee a day in the future where most divers will own their own compressors like Captain and Bryan.

I have two Bauer compressors in my shop sitting idle, waiting for the moment when I have to fill my own tanks. So far I can still get air at various non-LDS sites such as fire departments. As a public safety diver I had made connections with compressor locations throughout the Old Dominion where I can get air. I leave them idle but I know that one day I will have to break down and get them fired up.

The best thing is by getting air in fire departments I do not have to deal with folks who are confused by the 6351 alloy controversy or believe that anything older than 20 years may not be filled. They don't even know about vip stickers.

I have certifications to vip cylinders with TDI and PSI and inspect my own tanks but even with my connections there will soon come a time when I will have to fill my own tanks.
