Cage valves

Fri Jun 30, 2006 8:11 pm

I bought a pair of silicone cage valves from VSS almost a year ago. I used them once or twice found them quite good. used the rubber valves found them to be harder on the exhale.

I thought of using one of each of the silicone valves on two regs. one valvbe for each exhalation port, using the rubber on the inhalation.

Ifg I recall and I am not sure i recall since its been 40 years since i was in a scuba class. exhalation takes more effort... correct??

So if i pout the silicone valve which is easier to breath with in the exhale prt, life shouldnt suck as much... or rather blow!

any comments

This way both regs get good exhale

The exhalation effort varies with the position. If you are head down, exhalation is super easy.
There has already been much emphasis regarding reg position when using the double hose, and while it is true that inhalation is improved when the reg is lowest in relation to the lungs as posible, the reverse is true when it comes to exhalation. So, whenever someone mentions that double hose regulators are hard breathers, I tell them that: 1) The regulator needs to be worn as low as possible and as near to the center of the lungs as possible; and 2)Swim up when inhaling and down when exhaling, like a whale. Of course, I'm just messing with their heads on that last point, but it actually does work! It just isn't worth the extra effort involved, so try it once and forget about it.......until someone mentions that double hose regulators are hard breathers

I bought a couple of sets of those also. They work really well and make a big difference. I installed t hem in my two best RAMs. I wish I had bought more when he had them. Back to back in the same regulator --by switching mouthpieces ---the difference is very noticeable. Unfortuantely he does not have any more. I had some other silicone valves I had from some other purchase long ago and put them in my Mistral and it to breathed much better leaving my DA and square label RAM still with the neoprene rubber valves. Anyway, I agree, they make a big difference.

Between the silicone cage valves, super stretch hoses, Conshelf parts and other stuff and now the future silicone diaphrams and you can put together a regulator that breaths much better than they did when they were brand new. Nemrod
