DOUBLE HOSE RECYCLING

Mon May 08, 2006 10:37 am

In the very early days of recreational diving and even possibly to this date used double hose regulator hoses were/are highly prized by another group of people outside of recreational diving community.

A) Who were these people?

B) What use did they make of the used hoses?

C) Why did they use them?

Now you have my curiosity! I have never heard of this before in my entire life!! I would have to say, just guessing here... A speluncer. I think I spelled it wrong. A cave guy. I would say they used the hoses and made their own type of air purifier mask for inside a cave. ?? Hey.....it might work for poisonous gasses??

I'm guessing either aquarium owners or HVAC system installers. I'm pretty sure I am way out in left field on this one.

Sam I would not think they would make a very durable radiator hose...They are pretty thin and no reinforced at all. Only a guess of course.
Doing it right should include some common sense, not just blindly following specs and instructions. .Gary D, AWAP on SB

Now I'm really clueless. I'll guess though. The only thing I could even think of is for racing underwater. They probably knew exactly what kind of regulator to use on their trucks didn't they? I would suppose the Royal Aqua Masters were the preferred model to disasemble and somehow attach to the carburetor to go diving while still inside your truck so you didn't have to park it and that's why they go so high on ebay....right? Or....remember those little cars that had a propeller on the back end and you could drive them right into the water? Well then. You wore a regulator, and so did your truck or car. Hows that one?? I even called my brother who races vehicles and he has never heard of this. My dad raced those tube style cars that look like the boy scout derby cars on oval dirt tracks back in the 1940's and raced Jeeps up to the 1970's and he didn't even hear of this, so I'm really really lost, but very interested in the answer. I didn't ask my mom, because she only raced and didn't know how to work on engines!!! (don't give the answer out just yet, I'm having quite a fun time asking the racing folks about this and getting raised eyebrows on the whole issue. They are in suspense on the anwer.)

Recycled double hoses

Hint #2

The recycled hoses were used for costmetic enhancement and noise reduction...

Also possibly used on Jeeps

Wow... no clue. I couldn't see the hoses withstanding the heat from the exhaust.

All I can think of is using it as a gasket to isolate metal to metal rattles, like maybe door edges, or the hood, but cosmetic enhancement...well maybe in So Cal.. I don't know

Did they use the hoses as dust boots for their shock absorbers? :?:

Think in terms of pick-up trucks of the 1930s 40s and 50s. Especially the _ _ _ _ - _ _ _ _ ...

A few more clues...
Think of the 1940s 1950s pickup trucks
Think of the tail gates
Rattleing

This recycling activity was probably restricted to the birth place of recreational diving where the auto is king, Southern California, but I find it difficult to believe it would not have occured in other areas as well.

Just made a post on the DOXA thread.
It covers the Bancpain/Doxa/Rolex/Chronosport watches which you might find interesting or some what informative..
