Dacor Clipper C3/R4 Parts or Advice

Sun Sep 21, 2014 12:17 pm

I have a Clipper and the only problem is that the "adjusting screw" (R4131) is rusted completely inside the "center bolt" (R4141).

I need a part (the screw) and either a way to remove the rusted piece or a replacement piece.

I tried drilling it out but I can't get it all, the drill was too much off-centre (damn.)

Is there some way I can corrode the steel screw without corroding the brass center bolt?

Does anyone know of available parts for this?

Post a good clear photo or photos of what you need and someone here might be able to help out. I have some Dacor odds and ends, but haven't looked through them in a few years, so a photo might help.

Attached are a photo of my parts and a screenshot of the relevant service manual section.

Part 28 is rusted thoroughly inside part 29.

I did find out that boiling the part in a solution of water and alum will dissolve the steel adjusting screw. If it works, I may only need part 28.

Also I bent one of the spring retainer screws (part 10) using it to help remove the yoke.

Getting it out without doing more damage may be a problem unless you can hold and center the part accurately. Since you have already drilled it, you are going to have to use an endmill to cut it out and retap it although an easyout might get it out. Replacements are not easy to come by unless you get an entire reg. If you want, send it to me and I will see if I can get it out. I have the tools to align and cut it out. No promices but I will give it a try.
The screw is no big deal, any correct size SS should do.

If your drill has gone off-center and damaged the female threads of the Center Bolt (#29), shouldn't be much of a trick to bore it out and tap with a larger size.
I don't think that this will be a major roadblock in getting your reg working, so don't despair.

Heck, Herman could probably make those two parts in his sleep if I can't find them in my Box-O-Dacor Stuff. (I may be delayed a couple of days getting by the storage place due to out of town work)

Thanks.

Tomorrow I'm going to a 50 year old dive shop that's closing to pick over their vintage stuff, again. I'll be looking out for these specific parts this time.
