Is that my regulator?

Sun Mar 30, 2014 12:14 pm

Came across this awhile back. It shows the Chicago Fire dept. air/sea rescue unit in Burnham harbor sometime in the 60's. Although it is impossible to know for sure the reg being held up by the guy on the pier could be mine. My Dad, 38 yrs. CFD was stationed at Meigs field for a short time in the 80's. He "acquired" 2 DAAM's (a Made in France Delhi & a Warner) from a pile of "old crap" in the firehouse. Today both regulators are back in service. The Warner is now a rechromed Phoenix HPR, and the Dehli a scratched up beater with original hoses. Both are used from a charter boat out of the same harbor this pic was taken.

Could very well be. I like those old PR pics. Showing of the latest gear, oxygen ressuscitation unit, scuba equipment and the guy showing off the latest in radio communications. Pretty funny by todays standards but I dig it.

I really like the wet-suit, mask, fins, and weight belt all laid out on the pier. Very casual natural looking shot. Nothing posed here...

I remember your thread from a few years ago. Are you able to meet up with any of the guys in the photo? It would be nice to get the info on the regs while the users are still around to tell their story. At the very least you may be able to get the date that the dive team/water rescue unit was created.

Also, I couldn't help but notice that photo title is 'jet boat'? Was it a river rescue group? I imagine CFD is a big group with a few specialty teams thrown in for good measure.

Thanks for sharing.
