Restoring a 1967 USD Aqua-Naut mask

Sat Nov 02, 2013 1:23 pm

Does anyone know of a modern (or NOS) mask skirt that would fit the USD Aqua-naut? It is featured on the cover of the 1967 catalog. I just got one that happens to be my prescription, but the skirt is badly perished. Since I seem to have recently misplaced/lost my original (1975) Scubapro prescription mask  I'm hoping this can replace it.

As illustrated in the inline photo, it has a hard plastic insert that allows the goggle-style face plate to fit the more customary (at the time) "curved rectangle" frame.

The frame is designed for a 7/16" exterior collar skirt, and the skirt's interior plate channel is about 1/8". In this mask, the plate channel is actually designed to hold the edge of the plastic insert rather than the glass plate. Fortunately, the insert is still good.

I would really like to dive this mask with your guidance. Alternatively, I guess I could just insert the glass plate into a goggle-style mask. Any suggestions on that would likewise be welcome.

Thanks.
