EPMD hose taste

Fri Oct 18, 2013 11:37 pm

Does anyone have a good method for getting that nasty rubber taste out of EPDM breathing tubes? I tries shampoo, and dish soap. Didnt help at all. Maybe lemon?!

 I knew someone was going to say that. But I am not a vintage diver, I just prefer double hose regulators over single hose regs

Why choose silicone rubber over other rubber compounds?

Silicone offers the best long term resistance to environmental conditions.
Unaffected by ultraviolet light and ozone.
Silicone can be sanitized to medical specifications and will not promote growth of bacteria, mold and mildew.
Silicone will not take a set and become rigid when stored.
Silicone hoses have ZERO odor or taste.
Doing it right should include some common sense, not just blindly following specs and instructions. .Gary D, AWAP on SB

100% Agree, however I cannot find any silicone 1" cuff hoses. All I have come across are EPDM. I have silicone on my RAM which I absolutely love, ( not to mention the lovely silicone mouthpiece complements of VDH.com) but if anyone has or knows of any 1" cuff silicone hoses that would work for my Gold Lable/Hope-Page i would be interested!

I keep a little mouthwash in a spray bottle with my dive kit just for that purpose.
An occasional shot in the mouthpiece or in hose as needed makes a pleasant difference. Friends diving with my different regs on our outings also appreciate a spray in and on the mouthpiece for disinfectant purposes when changing users.

I definitely prefer the Silicone hoses on my favorite regulators for all the reasons Bryan listed... but I can't spring for new silicone on all of my regs at one time.

The smell/taste dissipates, maybe, over time. Run them through the washing machine, warm water, a little soap. Rinse under clear water over and over.

I prefer epmd hoses over silicone. I wish I had another pair of rubber hoses because of durability.
