SPECTRAMAR BERIS

Wed Apr 19, 2006 10:18 pm

Heres a good one that I dug up last week--SPECTRAMAR BERIS.

What is it?
What was it's Slang name?
Who marketed it?
When was it sold?
How was it sold?
Liquid?
Powder?
Cream?

And..Just what the heck was it Used For?

Should be easy for all you old Mossbacks and vintage types...It is not that old of a product--and was widely used throughout the world of diving--US, Canada, Latin America, Europe, Asia etc

Have fun!

I remember it as a ScubaPro antifog product. Didn't it come in a small squeeze bottle, similar to those on the market today?

Greg,

After all these good years--Great hearing from you! Look forward to seeing you at Portage Quarry in August

With your world class knowledge of Voit I would suspect that you would have the answer to question on a Voit product. I am surprised at your knowledge of a Scuba pro product.

And you are 100% correct!
*It is antifogging product
*It came in a small squeeze bottle

It also came in another container... Recall it?

Or it's "Slang name?"

I certainly wouldn't call my knowledge of Voit products "world class", but I appreciate the confidence.

I am planning on attending the outing at Portage in August. It sounds like a wonderful time.

Did the compound also come in a small tub container? It probably held 5-7 ounces or so? That seems to ring a bell or two....

Can I assume that Sam Jr. has finished all of his residencies?

I can not keep the tribe in suspense any longer..

SPECTRAMAR BERIS came in a squeeze tube and small 2X2 inch single useage foil packetts like the "towelettes." Actually single usage is incorrect. One packet would coat a number of masks; probably as many as a half dozen if used immediately after opening and used sparingly by all the participants.

The common California slange name for the product in any form was "Miget spit." The name was a concocted story about a factory in the orient that hired small people to spit in the small bottles and the packages. Of course there is no basis for this story but was a good one to tell to the basic Scuba Classes or on a boat when some one pulled it out their dive bag and were about to use it.

Crazy product - Great memories of times and years gone with the wind...

Greg don't be so modest-- You have incrediable knowledge of Voit and their products.

Sam IV is now in a ER/ Fam practice residency in Arizona. Doing great! Even making $$$$--after 12 years of college it is about time!

Didn't Scubapro also make a mask defog that had a foam applicator on it like you see on liquid shoe polish? It smelled kinda funny....

That was the squeeze tube that Greg identified.

Yes it had a funny odor--- Midget spit!

So, can I assume that his proud father is seeing the end of college bills?!?

Now what a coincidence. I had a few bottles of the stuff that lasted me years. This is my last bottle. I want more. I've been looking for more with no luck. Scubapro no longer makes it. I got some new stuff (500 PSI) and it doesn't work nearly as well. Any way to get this stuff? I've been using it so long it just doesn't seem like diving with out that smell 8)

Indeed, looking for info on my new Scubapro Supervision mask with purge I found someone had posted a page from their 1976 catalog and the mask cleaning product is mentioned.

I hope they don't mind me posting it...

My new mask works quite well...

That explains why you are always offering warm oil massages at the dive site......Image Image
