Voit Viking fins

Tue Jan 15, 2013 2:53 pm

I just picked up a pair of Voit Viking fins. They are just like my first pair of fins. I also have a pair that is green and the logo is not painted white. Doesn't look like the logo wore off, so perhaps they came that way. Anyone have any info on the various versions of the fins?

Those look like the short A6 versions. There was a long "scuba" version, the A66. I have seen them in black, black blue, blue, green etc. Good fins, wish they still made them. All of mine dry rotted in the heel and ripped. The Skindiver was similar and in similar colors and also in a long and short version.

The green fins are knockoffs not made by Voit. Some say Voit and others have just a J. I have been trying to find a example of each of the A6 fins. I have found A6's with slots in the sides, A6's with just the dark blue at the top of the footpocket, some with the dark blue on the entire foot pocket, black foot pocket with light blue fin, both styles of green and a pair of A66s. I think I am only missing the black A6's and orange and blue knockoffs. Are there others?

The Viking fins were the first pair I owned in the 60's. I have several pairs in my collection. Trying to go down memory lane this past summer, I grabbed a set I have in decent condition and used them to snorkel with. Although the fit was good I still managed to wear two nice blisters in the top of my foot. I still have the scars...

Then I remembered how the same thing used to happen to me in the 60's. I liked the fins but always suffered with a blister or two when wearing them.

I find I need to wear a thin nylon or neoprene sock when using those sorts of fins.
I have a pair of the blue A6's but in medium so my wife wears them. I usually wear my Voit custom duckfeet, which I love.

You can see me wearing them during this video I did last summer:
