Wetwear of Hallandale, Florida

Mon Jan 07, 2013 11:09 pm

Does anyone have any experience with these folks? They make rubatex suits, and they have made a bunch for the military. I'm thinking about having them custom fit me for a pair of high waisted pants and a beaver tail jacket in 1/4". Has anyone used them? They have a good reputation with the military. They are about 5-ish hours away from me, so the wife and I might get suits made for us there after a fitting.

My Harvey's off the rack suit has been going for years, but it is starting to get a little worn with 4 years of use.

I read Nemrod's comments on them. It seems like his is warm, but not well made by his observation. Nem, has your suit held up?

I have heard that Rubatex just recently closed their manufacturing plant. Therefore, I just did a quick Google search on Rubatex and found a few interesting sites.

It is hard to tell what is in the future of Rubatex. It sounds like the plant has had some shaky recent history.

I have had some experience with them and so has a close friend. Over the years I have bought 2 custom wet suits, one was OK, the other one was really nice and only had a few issue with it that they took care of, that was about 10 years ago. They also have handled some little projects for me that I was satisfied with. Fast forward to just last summer, my buddy (a Tec instructor) had a custom suit made. It took forever to get a final product, had to be re fitted a twice due to their mistakes and they totally miss-aligned some pockets that had to be removed and re-aligned. The final product was a complete POS, looks terrible from all the “fixes” and fits even worse. All this for just under a grand! And my buddy is one of the easiest people to deal with.

Hope that helps

I hate to run people down and I know this is an old post, but, they did not build the suit for me that we agreed upon. It was expensive and it does not fit worth a -------. The zippers tore out and I sent it back and then the crotch clips pulled out and I sent it back and it was fixed sort of.

My ranking :

Rubatex G231 awesome
Wetwear not so awesome and their workmanship, poor at best.

If they do not like my report, they can build me another suit that fits. I put 33 inch inseam, this suit has a 29 inch the way I measure it and it is that way all through. It is as if they jumbled measurements and just randomly made a suit. Arms too long, legs too short and gut would take me and a bowling ball. My waist is barely 30 inches, what the hell is this thing they made me.

I have a real hard time with rubber products, off the shelf rarely fits, custom does not fit. Old is rotten and does not fit either. Oh well. Bare and Body Glove used to fit me decent but now that they have fat sized there is too much in the middle. But, good old Scubapro still seems to occasionally make a suit for pre-plus size people.
