DH & BP&W

I'm thinking of bringing 1 or 2 back plate & wing rigs into the household. I'm having one heck of a time visualizing the wing playing nice with my PRAM.

I know there are some of you diving such a combination. What works, what doesn't and do you have any photos to share of the assembled rig, worn inflated and so forth? Is a center mount inflater a non-starter?

Thanks for the input!

Here is a thread in which Nemrod is displaying his Freedom plate and double hoser.... There are many more threads on this board with Nemrods set-up with double hoses.

I too have the freedom plate and I'm looking for my first double hose to use with it.

The freedom plate is nice because it is designed after the the old school packs. Here's a thread about that. It fits nicely with the "ECLECTIC" PRAM..

Good luck!

There are only a few BP/wing users with double hose, me, Tennesee Diver, Captain, maybe a few others I cannot recall.

I find the Oxycheq wings far superior to any other (wing) in part due to the rugged cover material and second the narrow design and third (very important) is they have an off center inflator hose. The styles like the DSS that have the on center inflator hose do not work well with the double hose regulators. Frankly, the Oxy is a better wing all around especially with the off centered inflator hose.

The conventional doubles plate does not work so great for a double hose, it tends to sit the tank to high and you cannot drop it because the plate rams into the bottom of the regulator cans. I have been successful with standard plates by lengthening the shoulder straps slightly, dropping the tank as low as possible etc. but the Freedom Plate type design and the new Oxy ultra light plate alleviate all problems.

The Freedom Plate equipped Oxy Mach V (18 or 30) is the ultimate eclectic double hose rig. It dives as if there were no BC and therefore feels vintage and swims vintage and has the plain old since forever single piece harness, simple and proven. The narrow wing puts you into a perfect trim positon and presents no drag. The only thing better is nothing and this is close to nothing.

If I am going to use a BC I will only use a wing as I have always done, otherwise I would as soon do without and of course do dive without as all of you do. I cannot deal with jackets and back inflates with cumberbunds and bouyant padding and chest clips and all that fuss.

Let me be clear, if you get a wing with a center mounted inflator, I doubt it will work. I have tried such types, it does not work. The Oxy wings are well designed and have the correct off center inflator hose. The off center inflator is CORRECT for all types, the on center is wrong and inferior.

The wing will fold up over the lower portion of the can in some applications, as long as there is noinflator there, there is no problem. You rarely fully inflate a wing anyways. With the Freedom Plate there is plenty of room, however, the FreedomPlate is harder to get that a gold plated Phoenix nozzle. Eric was trying to sell a few here and a few who realized their rarity and excellent design bought them. You might contact him but who knows the result.
