La Spirotechnique Mistral

Sun May 27, 2007 2:04 am

I recently purchased a La Spirotechnique Mistral regulator. It is an early one I believe, but I was wondering if someone could help me with Mistral dates.

I have two:

1. The early one is serial number 7103 and has an address of 27. Rue Trebois Le Vallois. It has a chromed T mouth piece.

2. The second one is a Royal Mistral, without a HP port. It has a serial number of 10920 and no address. It has the rubber mouth piece with a neck strap.

The early model has a wide O-ring seat. It fits perfectly on my 1954 broxton triples and on the side J valve La Spirotechnique single I have. It is not useable on later k valves. Both are in excellent condition and breathe well from a tank, but I have not dived either of them yet.

To the best of my knowedge, there was a Royal Mistral with an HP port which probably followed the Royal I have. Of course the CG45 pre-dates my early Mistal. I would like to know if anyone has any time line information on the La Spirotechniques or can date the ones I have.

I have an early Mistral #32348 with the 27. Rue Trebois Le Vallois address. It also has the metal mouthpiece. I am guessing mine is a late 50's early 60's regulator. Just as with US Divers I don't know if serial number sequence is any indication of date of manufacture. It is my favorite next to my Pheonix. I turned down the OD of the nozzel so it is useable on all US valves

Spiro company changed several times its manufacture location in Paris and suburbs, so using the direction we can have a quite precise idea of the year of manufacturing using the following time line:

* Rue Cognac Jay, Paris VII - untill 1956
* Rue Trébois, Levallois( Seine) - untill 62
* Rue Marius Aufan Levallois (92) - form 62 and on

Mistral manufacturing began in 1955, in 1959, in the magazine "l'aventure sous marine", Spiro announced that they sold 100.000 regs units, neverthetless. from CG45 to Mistral, Serial number are not sequencial.

Anyway, you can have a look at that link (explanation in French but nice pics)
