Talc on duckbills

I think most of us here are well aware of the benefits of dusting rubber parts like our duckbills with talc to aid in preservation during storage; but, is there any benefit to dusting latex duckbills as well? I would think that the talc would help to keep the insides from sticking together, but what about actual preservation? Any harm in it?

I talcum powder mine but don't know if it really does any good other than preventing sticking together.

I send little bottle of talc at random for duckbills and mouthpiece valves. I think it just keeps them from sticking together. No qualities as a preservative.
I have heard of folks storing them in the icebox....

I dive with a duckbill once an then I toss it. I dive with a new one from each batch I have made to keep an eye on quality.

Although the reproductions are a little thicker they will last 10 times longer than the original ones.....The originals are very thin and don't hold up well at all. I have been told by many divers that it was an item that was replaced every year and sometimes more frequent than that if a lot of diving was done with the regulator.

I really dislike it when people post the EXACT same question on both sites......Everyone reads them both so why put the SAME QUESTION on both sites????

One possible reason that double posts occur is that although many Vintage Divers read both sites, regretfully not all Vintage Divers actually post on both VDH & VSS.

I guess by "double posting" the individual asking the question is "casting a net" to try and capture all of the possible answers to their question.

It's a pet peeve of mine......Not a big deal at all.

As an FYI, I have already been discussing duckbills and mouthpiece valves with the folks making the new diaphragms in silicone....

I know what you mean, and I rarely double post. It just depends on the topic and if I think it might be a good idea to check both forums (or....gag....even SCUBABoard once in a while). The registered user list doesn't overlap exactly. I think Joe put it best.

My question was about whether talc has a preservative effect on latex. Latex is NOT RUBBER! It's a whole new material for vintage regulators with a whole new set of properties. Apparently, no one really seems to know the answer, so my question must be a good one. Notice, I did say "latex":

Why don't you do a long term study yourself and get back to us in two or three years with the results?
That will give us a long term break from this asinine question that no one seems to really care about.
Tell you what I'll do......The next time you order from me I'll send you a FREE duckbill and you can postpone worrying about the subject for at least another year....

I didn't think such a simple question would cause so much consternation!
I will backtrack and correct myself on one statement I made here earlier. Latex is a type of rubber. My bad. That's where some of the problem may lie. Heretofore, when I said "rubber" I meant butyl, neoprene and the like, not latex.
