The volunteer fire dept I was with would on occasion rinse the hoses with mouth wash, yes the hoses only got wet on the outside however sometimes there would be coughing or personal reasons to clean themluis wrote:And they may get wet on the outside, but they don't normally get submerged either.duckbill wrote:I have just been informed that SCBA hoses only carry fresh air, never exhaled gases. So, they apparently don't fall into consideration regarding cleaning to remove organic contamination.duckbill wrote: While I'm here I thought I'd make a comment in the deep convolutions/bacterial growth topic. I recently realized that the convolutions on the SCBA hoses our firefighters use are also deep and tight. I'm sure that they have their own effective cleaning protocols and it would be interesting to find out what they are.
As regarding the historically accurate diving some of us have split personalities. I intend to eventually have one "correct outfit " or at least as correct as I can get it, and another "boat approved" ie. octopus possibly bc outfit. IMHO I feel if we wish to dive with groups that are not vintage and our buddy is not vintage we should be able to offer them a single hose octopus, especially if we wind up with a newbie as a buddy.
