I summed up most of what went down in this thread, and created a howto as well. David, I incorporated your pictures too, and gave you credit for them :)

Out of curiosity, what thickness is your suit?

Great job, Ron. I've been away over the festive season, so have only now seen your message. Can you swap the labels on picture 1 and picture 3 on your third slide?

Modified hydroglove

I think it is .025" thick. It is the surfer neck seal suit.

For what it's worth, here's a diagram of an exhaust valve for a two-piece "diver's dress" or "swim suit", taken from a US Military Specification (MIL-D-19458A of 14 August 1964):

The valve-related text in the specification reads as follows:

The whole specification can be freely downloaded from http://docimages.assistdocs.com/waterma ... 1115BD.pdf

Have you had any concerns about the durability of the .025" thickness?

I had a weak area develop a couple of years after cementing in a reinforcing ring where I added a DUI inflator to the chest. I had used office supply type rubber cement as advised by Bill at Hydroglove. The inflator worked great until a couple of years later it pulled out during a February dive, resulting in a very uncomfortable swim back to my exit point. The inflator was still snugly sandwiched over the rubber, but the suit gave way all and tore around the cemented ring. On my next suit I did not cement the reinforcing material and so far all is well. The same problem might possibly have affected the heavier suit too. No way of knowing without trying.

I hope the cement that Ron used on his inflator works better!
The older I get the better I was.
